Do i have to keep this running while playing? And do I need to do this every time on start up?
Hey guys, this is Retail again
I looked into this 'Prefetch' by simply using the Run option at start menu. It seems to have some processes that the computer runs, not all inside the cache run by looking at the Task Manager.exe. So I went to the Microsoft website and i found this!
Taken from the Microsoft Website
Windows XP monitors the files that are used when the computer starts and when you start applications. By monitoring these files, Windows XP can prefetch them. Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP and start applications.
This information is logged and stored on your hard drive taking up space and requiring a process to be kept running monitoring which applications are being run. This has a performance impact on your PC. Disabling the Prefetch function or at least only enabling it for the Boot Files will allow you to free up some system resources and preserve some disk space.
So, I went to go try this trick, and I found that it only boosted my FPS by a measley 1... My computer is not fast at all, I usually get 14-20fps. so it'd be 14-21fps. But, I tried this trick and opening task manager via CTRL + ALT + DEL, and killed off a bunch of processes(i.e Antivirus protection, modem boosters, any peer to peer programs they take up alot, browsers, etc. I killed the some of these. ekrn.exe,igfxtray.exe,imapi.exe,limewire.exe,firefox.exe(100K Mem usage WOW), egui.exe,PnKbStrA.exe,rambooster.exe,CPUCool.exe,CPLserver.exe,etc.
Then, popped up my game bam boosted my FPS up by 10!! Your better off killing some useless processes/or running this and killing them. If you want to know which processes to kill get a hold of me.
Answering the questions:
Do i have to keep this running while playing? And do I need to do this every time on start up?
No. You only run this whenever you want to run your application, right before launching it. And the script will pop, execute, and auto close, wont keep running while using your app.
nice maybe this is working my brother tried it but it dident work on himm
Make sure you saved a myfile.bat and not a myfile.txt or myfile.bat.txt or it wont really do nothing besides opening your notepad.
Nice guide...and in just a sec, welcome out of leechers
LOL!
Alright I will give it a try and see if it helps at all, though I usually get alright FPS but it can drop and raise alot giving me fps lag.
Remember that even cleaning your system a lil using this script you may get stuck on your other hardware configuration.
ROFL! this does indeed work!!! My fps is usually ~25.. now it's ~45!!
Thx alot for this!! <3!!
nice gotta try it
hmm idnt do much work on my lappy... but +rep anyway![]()
Im not quite sure if i dare to delete something like that... Even tho that you guys says go for it....
Well nice if it works
