This won't work in a battleground. First of all, players are not mobs. They can easily kick a mage's ass if they get in range, they run around, jump, ect. And there are things called PvP trinket and Frost Resistance and racials. Also, adds are much easier to come by. Also, you might want to think of cast time interrupts with a ranged weapon, as well as Vanish, Sprint, and shape-shifting. And that's just for stopping Frost Nova from working its magic. The thing is, this type of mage AoE relies on slowing effects. Even if you do manage a quick Frost Bolt, a warrior could get Inercept and get off a Hamstring. This would result in your quick death if used in PvP.
