Best Mage PvE Spec

What is it? ive herd fire is the best, but i have also herd putting enough points in arcane to get mind mastery, then putting the rest in fire, could be a pretty good spec. Please post some specs that you think would work and also some numbers would be good too!

if you are going to be doing PvE frost spec is the way to go. if you want to do a lot of pvp look for a fire/arc spec.

i go pure frost on my mage bots simply because at level 40 they get ice barrier which makes botting 5x easier, and pulling with frostbolt means that mobs are slowed down which also helps.

If you don't want to die... choose frost... definately better surviving chance...
If you want to go PvE mobs (not bosses)... frost definately.
And if you wan tto gor raid specc, just go for fire... it is way more DPS!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA FOOLS TO THY WHO SAY FIRE IS BEST PVE SPECC! 50/11/0 will prevail, but at a kara level you can practically take any specc cause frost is at same lvl as fire there, when you go higher though like SSC/TK go fire, when you get 2/5 t5 GO ARCANE AND PWN

arcane is uselesssss,fire is damage butttttttt you will die very very fast so it is useless ,frost is your way to go with PvE, plus its better for survival and mobs pulling so go frost :coolugh:

Frost is for PvP and Low end *KZ and such* instances IMO..
ATM one of the best raiding specs(Guessing thats what your looking for)is 10/48/3, as such *WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Mage -> Talent Calculator

Arc / Fire is okay for raiding but i really wouldnt advise it.. To much agro & burst dmg... The above spec is raiding, dmg & spell hit..

Well it looks as though Blizzard have thrown us Mages another curve ball. Having forced our PvE Spec down the cookie cutter 10/48/3 for some time now, they have thrown another build into the mix with the latest patch.

This is from the patch notes:
* Arcane Missiles: Some procs were not triggered by this spell and now will be (such as Eye of Magtheridon). The tooltip for this spell will now update correctly when a Mage is affected by spell haste.

Now this may seem a small fix but it does in fact have a profound effect on Arcane dps. Arcane has always been the remit of mages with 2 pieces of T5 for the AB bonus. This is no longer the case.

Now consider this: Equip this meta gem. Mystical Skyfire Diamond

The proc timer has been changed on this gem. You now have 10 seconds to use up the proc rather than the previous 4 seconds. Meaning you won't need to worry about stopcasting.

With AM having a 5% chance to proc with each tick, and a basic arcane rotation of 3 x AB, 1 x AM, 1x scorch means an average of 4 procs a minute, should give you 3-4 more AM volleys per minute. Specced deep into the Arcane tree with Mind Mastery and Empowered AM thats a lot of extra damage.

Now I know some of you will say mana issues will arise and I don't disagree, but take into account that you will have the Arcane Meditation and Arcane Mind talents to counter this.

Our dps will go up whilst our aggro levels will go down due to the 40% reduction from Arcane Subtlety. Another bonus from the arcane build will be the fact that we will be able to max cap our plus hit rating more easily by not having to stack tonnes of +hit gems and gear because Arcane focus will give us a base 10% hit, filling the other 6% will be easy with items, leaving you to socket your gems with +spl damage only. So instead of needing 164 hit to max the cap as a fire mage you only need 76 hit to max as an arcane mage.

If you also have Quaggies Eye thats a bonus too as it will also proc from a single AM and stack with the Mystical Skyfire Diamond proc.

We will still need decent raid synergy to survive the Mana drain but this might be the improvement we need to our raid dps. I think I might give it a go.

If it really does work out It would be great...but you just KNOW that Blizz is gonna take away this punch bowl from us. So enjoy it while you can...

Anyhow for the foreseeable future it looks like Arcane is back.

It was possible to be decent with arcane and 2/5 T5, but I dont think ill be seeing that in 2.3

I'm a raiding mage in hyjal/bt right now..

For pre-kara and leveling to 70, a deep frost spec worked great
For Kara while in blues through Gruul - 10/48/3 was great.. stack scorch, fireball away restacking scorch as needed
For SSC-TK and into hyjal/bt- begin raiding as 10/48/3 until you pass the 1k bonus damage mark (spellfire set is essential and spellstrike) then respec to 50/11/0 or 50/0/11. This arcane spec will work fine with only one piece of T5 and will scale as you get better gear. Typical cast sequence is abx2 and amx3. Always arcane missile on clearcast procs.

Anything (trinket like Quag's) or gem (MS diamond) that improves spell casting haste will help boost your damage.

You need spell hit so stack spell hit gear even if it means you sacrifice damage.

We have 4 raiding mages in our guild and every one of them has spec'd heavy arcane for raiding. The damage is higher than fire and the threat reduction from the arcane tree makes you less of a liability.

In patch 2.3 10/48/3 will probably out dps the arcane spec for most mages, but we're still a few weeks out from that patch.

Arcanes viabiblity in raids are very good with threat reduction and completly deletes the spellhit from the issue since you only need like 70 hitrating before you hit the cap, 30% aggro reduction imba, arcane will still outdmg fire unless you dont have 4/5 of t6 in 2.3 though
