    An attempt to recreate Carbonite

I think Carbonite looks really interesting, but like many others, I have no intention of purchasing it. Instead, I have tried to recreate it as much as possible with various addons. Here's the list of the addons I use for this purpose and what they do in short. Visit the URLs for more info and pictures.

wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/cartographer3.aspx (Cartographer 3.0) - VERY similar to Carbonite's map, if not identical. It has all the features Carbonite has, except the built-in POIs. You have to create those yourself. Else it pretty much works and looks exactly the same. You can view everything from battlegrounds to instances. Even major cities. If you zoom in close enough, the map will get more detailed (Switches to the minimap-map (Or something...).). It even shows guildmembers' position on the map (Really don't know the details of this. They might need Cartographer 3.0 too, but I'm not sure.).

wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/quest-helper.aspx (QuestHelper) - "QuestHelper tells you how to finish your quests in the easiest, fastest manner. It includes a database of quests, monsters, and items, telling you the exact location of that dang Perfect Satyr Horn you can't find. It also computes the fastest path to complete all your quests - and gain experience - as quickly as possible." (Quote from Curse.) It also links with your partymembers' questlogs and displays their progress of the quests you're on. Even those you aren't on. It also shows your ETA with your current speed, shows flighttime etc. Fully compatible with Cartographer 3.0. It even makes use of Cartographer's 3D GPS-arrow.

www .mobmap.de/ (Mobmap) - "Ingame positioning database". It works like any online database (Eg thottbot.), but ingame. You search for the desired object, and it pops up in Cartographer like small white squares (See thottbot.). It also adds questionmark-icons next to your questname and quest objectives in the questlog. Click them, and mobmap looks it up. It's really just like thottbot ingame. Great addition when questhelper isn't enough. The database it updated through community uploads, so it updates quickly. Comes with an updating-software. This is the addon that killed my alt-tabbing. Compatible with Cartographer 3.0.

wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/gatherer.aspx (Gatherer) - Logs your gathers and displays them on your map and minimap. It also shows how long it's been since you last visited the gather, and what it dropped. I don't know the details, but it seems to communicate with guildmembers that also have Gatherer installed. Compatible with Cartographer 3.0.

With this I pretty much managed to get the same features Carbonite had. I still prefer Carbonite, but this is a good option, not to mention free.

These addons aren't exactly known to be lightweight. Especially not Questhelper. Expect changing in performance if your computer is a bit old.

Please let me know what you think and tell me if something should be added or changed. Questions are welcome.
