Ingame Wowhead (preview)

Is the cmd window supposed to just pop up and close immediately or is there something wrong? (I mean when I first "installed" this, now it just says that no new updates found.)

The help thing hasn't changed at all and the TKDB menu button is still the same. It just grays out for a second and returns back to normal. :S

EDIT: I looked into the hosts file (located at "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc") and the file hadn't put any new lines (atleast not anything like on the website) into it so I tried manually installing the hosts and addon but it didn't help. :S
EDIT2: Lol... I looked into the hosts file again and there were 6 times the same line (the one on the website). I deleted all of them except 1 and tried again. Now it works but it doesn't look the same as in your .gif on the main post.

Yes sorry, I should mention I use Skinner addon to make the black skin. I usually made the other screens using no addons but this time I forgot. ;( You can get the nice black frames with Skinner: Skinner - Addons - Curse

Sorry that it didn't automatically fix it, it should however some people experience some issues. I guess the ZIP extracting thingy bugged (on Vista) and so you had to manually get the ZIP and fix the host.

Do mind that Skinner (I think) bugs the frames a little, at least here it might do. :P

Actually the setup worked but (I think) it had for some reason put the hosts too many times into the file so it bugged somehow. It worked after I removed the all except 1.

So, if someone else is having problems with the addon, open your "hosts" file (just use search amd you should find it) and make sure there is only 1 of the lines from the website.

This is not for the newbies, addon itself is only half of the work you need to do since you need to configure your host file to cooperate with you in order to make this work. :P Program should automatically do it for you, but there is always the manual instructions if you feel it is more safe and such.

***Attention Everyone having problems with Installing***

If you have tried to get your "auto" install working and it hasn't worked...

it's because by DEFAULT the "Hosts" file is "READ ONLY" ... so..

1. Navigate to your "Hosts file" (Deafault Loc for XP/Vista is - c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc..)

2. right click the file called "hosts"

3. "UN-CHECK" the "READ ONLY" button

4. Click apply

5. Open the *.Zip file you downloaded from the first page, and click the "TKDB_Setup.exe" file.

6. Wait for it to do it's thing

7. Enjoy..

Yes gezus, that's right. Also if you use Vista and it still doesn't work you can edit the file permissions, add your own account to it and give yourself full rights. Then you may edit the file freely. Vista is too secure! :P

However .. Go to your friendly "Torrent" search site ie:Pirate Bay, ISOHunt.. etc.

and search for "Windows Vista Black" ..

It's an open source version of Vista that the Internet community has Hacked wide open and taken apart piece by piece, and put back together to be pretty much WinXP that looks like Vista and Doesn't eat 90% of your system resources.

and also on another note. If .. someone out there could figure out a way to make this cute little program a "Stand Alone" addon .. like Zygor ingame guide. or something. Without having to access it through the Help database. I can almost guarantee it would quickly become the most downloaded program available.

In fact .. said person would be wise to contact wowhead about such endeavors.

The "Knowledge Database" is hard-coded in the game itself to be able to access the support.wow-europe (or worldofwarcraft).com domain to get data from it and display it in the frame. This means that you can tweak as much as you like but the core API from the knowledge database must be used to access the outside.

If you meant Stand Alone as in no need to use hosts edit to contact a server, well that would kinda loose its point wouldn't it? At the moment the data you get is fresh, and it always is straight out from the Wowhead pages. If I make all the data into LUA arrays it would quickly end up with a file on 50 MB or more with pure text on spells, factions, achievements, comment data, locations, e.g. The point is to have a 20 kB memory using addon to check Wowhead from in game without having you alt-tab. Atm this is what it does.

Doubt Wowhead would officialy support such an addon when it is most likely something blizzard labels as against their policies, e.g. :P

A bit behind me within the Add-on world.

I've managed to make an Add-on that allows me to use my Internet Browser while inside of WoW. It ended up that only IE would work, and not the other fancy browsers.

This is integrated in the game as a addon, no overlay techniques. Thus no need to install stuff to make it work.
