Account renter scam = Bad. Read more!
As some of you may have clued in, there's one primary reason why this is bad.

Now, there was another thread explaining that the person who had rented out their account got banned by being reported by the person/company who had rented it. But there's a secret motive behind this!

As a security professional, I've encountered many scams done in this way by real companies in your area! Companies you wouldn't think would do this!

Now, there is two things that these people do. They own and operate multiple sites providing gold and power leveling services OR multiple companies will work with each other for a greater profit.

You go and rent your account for, a week, and steal it back on day six which gains you a bunch of gold and/or items. Great. I'm sure you feel all powerful and feel like you're a smooth operator. Secret is, the joke is on you!

They will go and report you and provide ample proof that they were indeed using your account. This will result in your account being suspended pending further investigation or a permanent ban that, no matter what excuse you give, will stay banned.

Now, having been an avid and dedicated (aka, Addicted) WoW player, you will be upset and feel the need to play again, but you won't want to spend that time leveling another toon. Having already proved that you're an unethical and lazy gamer by having someone else use your account to get you ahead (and then scammed them) you're a high target to go to another site from one that got you banned to get a toon power leveled to 70 again. This is how they will make more money off of you. 1-70 power leveling costs more than the 2000g you would have bought in most cases.

If you were smart, you had a second account registered under a completely different name, email, and address with a 70 on it. Good on you. But most people have multiple accounts under the same name which often get banned in association with the account they tried to scam with.

The point is, this is a scam of their own. This revolves around the number of people that will try this (which is more people than you would think) and thus, gaining them more gold, items, and profit at your expense.

So when you think about scamming a company, make sure that you have a backup plan, because an evil plan will ALWAYS backfire.

Anywho, just thought I'd let some people into the economical scams that independant enterprises engage in that most people aren't aware about.

even assuming they don't make additional profit from you, scamming renting companies isn't exactly an intelligent thing to do. It wouldn't take them longer than five minutes to send an email to Blizzard -- it doesn't matter whether they do it out of spite or because they want to discourage other people to do it, there's almost no reason for them not to.

Personally I only rent out my accounts in one day 'cuz of 2 reasons:

    1. Security - less chance to get banned.
    2. Powerful - One day equals 1000g so just change company every time and you'll be fine.

They'd report you so they can then be sued by Blizzard for breaking the WoW terms of service? Doubtful.

Why would you rent out your account even if you had a very small amount of common sense you would realize thats not a very good idea.

    * Cause it is easymoney
    * If you find a good site they won't cheat you
    * If they try to cheat you and change password you can just ask a new pw

what's more doubtful is the "fact" that they would have to disclose any their own information to report you, or that blizzard would even do anything assuming they did.

Ok, but if they start selling all your shit, or make it WAY too easy to get banned, like play for 72 hours at a time, or pay your subscription with a chinese credit card, and you take back your account, your kind of screwed.. lol
