Cool! Thanks!
This is not technically a scam and is totally game legal.
When TBC is released certain items will rise in price e.g. items needed to train jewelcrafting to 300, weps used by alliance shamen, horde pallys etc.
If someone sends you a cod item, you can leave that item unopened (unpaid) in your mailbox for several days before it is returned to the original sender (i think it is ten days)
Several days before TBC is released, use several alts to advertise constantly that they are buying say Star Rubys at a price that is 100%-200% of the current AH price.
Ask for the seller to send them to you cod.
Sit back and wait for TBC to be released.
If prices of the items rise, pay the cod price and relist them on the AH at the new TBC price.
congratuklations you just made a profit and the original cod seller just paid for the risk element since if prices dont rise, or fall when TBC is released, you simply return the cod items unpaid !
Trick here is to use a lot of alts and try and entice people that have stockpiled mats or epics for shamen etc to sell to you (cough) befiore TBC goes live - a certain percentage of stockpilers will be happy to simply make (they think) a profit on their items and hold gold when tbc is released, others will simply be happy to sell at + AH prices.
I am not sure what the limit of mails you can have waiting to be opened but it is certainly sufficient for you to potentially make a fortune on this "scam"
Cool! Thanks!
good idea.
I think the COD time-limit is 3 days, and you can only see the first 50 of your mails. Not sure why Blizzard has made that last limit, it is really annoying.
COD limit is thirty(30) days UNOPENED.
An Epitome of Doom.
this is not very good if you ask me. i think they will use a whole bundle of gems for jewelcrafting... tough i can be wrong. but these gems are very rare. jewelcrafting would cost way too much munny...
Not very good ! What planet are you on m8 ?
Jewelcrafting is going to be huge in TBC.
If you assume 1 in ten players will take it up in some format or other as one of their professions, either on an existing lev 60 or a new character, you are talking about around 60 current game items that are little used becoming massively sought after in TBC to raise jewelcrafting skill.
If prices rise you have many many opportunities to buy at old wow prices and resell at a profit FOR ZER0 PERSONAL RISK.
no one knows if prices will definitely rise but this method is pretty much guaranteed to make you profit if they do.
Way too much money ? So what are you saying numbnuts ? No one will be taking up jewelcrafting or just you wont becasue you are too poor ?Originally Posted by xcreed
If you stopped throwing water on perfectly good specualtive scams and tried some of them, maybe you wouldnt be so poor.
BTW - what great ideas have you got you can share with us all - oh wise one !

whats the point of leaving them unpaid for in your mail why don't you buy them there wouldn't be a difference. would there?
By leaving them unpaid for you can just return them if the prices do not rise.
I don't know why people are finding problems with this. It's a risk-free investment and deserves +rep. Clever thinking, Thunder.
