[Idea] Guild Crafter Scam

Preface

This scam was thought of back when sunwell was new. Not sure how profitable it will be now, but maybe it will be profitable in the future. Because the nature of this scam it's not something you can constantly do, but you can do it on your main. Will need help from a friend or a scammed account.

Idea

The idea is straight forward. You want to find someone who is looking for a very expensive combine that doesnt have mats. You will buy the mats from a guild, find out if that guild can combine it, contact the buyer, sell the mats and offer to have the guilide combine it for him and send it in the mail so the buyer doesn't have to be online to have it combined. If the person doesn't want to do that, you just simply resell the mats to the buyer and all is done. If he gives you the mats, you are gonna rob your own bank.

Terms Used

Buyer - In this example, the buyer is wanting a combine of something - say a pair of gloves, that requires sunmotes (those sold for 1500g a pop on my server and required 6 of them for something made). So the buyer is the person who will buy the sunmotes.

Seller - That would be the person selling the sunmotes and the guild who can do the combine for the buyer.

What you need

1. A bank guild. Buy a tab, put your nice stuff in it. Its gonna be a guild for your bank to put all the good stuff in.

2. You need the name of a seller of whatever mats a buyer wants from a guild who will sell the mats. Chances are the gm isnt gonna sell the mats directly but maybe an officer will. You just need the name of that person and make a bank for him on your account.

3. You need gold to buy the mats the buyer wants.

4. You need to create a bank on your friends account or scammed account that has the same first letter/s of the buyer. This bank should be made before ever contacting the buyer so he will be a guildie before anything.

5. You need a way to keep said items once you steal them (do you transfer servers, sell on ah, give them away, i dont know how to actually hold onto to the items)

6. A leveling alt to contact seller.

Create guild for Bank

All you want is a gbank for your bank. And you are tired of being harassed by people wanting you to sign petitions. Whatever reason you dont want your bank with your main (mine never was). Create a guild name - Banks R Us. Something creative and memorable.

Your bank name will be the sellers bank. Lets say you find the officer of the guild's name is Merlin. Your banks name will be merlinbank. While you are going to pretend to be him, your background is that merlin is just a cool name, your birds name is merlin, thats your nickname, whatever. Come up with a reason why thats your banks name also.

You'll create this bank name long before the actual scam. You can do it at any point. But the point is, the buyer might know that merlin is the person of the guild that sells the mats. Now all of a sudden merlinbank is contacting him so it sounds somewhat legit. Doesnt have the guild tag but has a bank name tag.

Finding the Buyer

Check realm forums of someone who wants to buy a combine and doesnt have the sunmotes (using sunwell as an example. Substitute the new expensive mats instead). Hang around chat also. Whatever it takes to find someone who wants to buy a combine.

Create a new bank alt

You create one on a friends account, and ask for a ginvite from your banks main. Your bank should be something creative that another bank would want to join. When the new bank joins, tell them that they are just getting the tag, so wont have access to the gbank. But when you invite them you are accidently going to promote them too high or forget to promote them or something, basically giving them 100% access to your bank.

Lets say the buyers name is Greathunter. The gbank name you will want might be something like Growsbank. Have it mean something though...maybe your friends name, or you can just have your friend say grow is his cats name. Something.

Your friend should just be a friend, not a wow friend, but someone you trust that will steal from you...you didnt know them and thats how they treated you.

Contact Seller

Ask if he has any sunmotes for sale and how many for 6. See if you can get a deal on them, maybe save 500g, or even 100g. Whatever. Just to make you a profit. If he has 6 for sale find out if a guild member can craft whatever it is the buyer wants. If so, find out the name of that person. Add the sellers name and the crafters name to your friends list.

Contact Buyer

Hop on Merlinsbank and send a mail to the buyer:

I saw you were looking for a combine for the gloves. We just had it drop last night. If you need the sunmotes we have 6 for sale for 9000g (1500g ea) and can do the combine for you for free if you have the rest of the mats. Let me know if you still need a combine.

Wait for response

If the buyer responds that he is still looking for the combine and has the mats, just apoligies to him and say you were mistaken.

Sorry, i contacted our guild LW and he has the other gloves, not the ones you are looking for.

It doesn't matter if the guild can do it or not, chances are the person isnt going to hand over all his mats to you. If you still want to try, you can always be helpful.

Add craftersName to your friends list. He will make it for you, no combine fee (if the guild doesnt charge for combines). He hardly is ever on, though, but if you like, you can send me the mats and i'll have him combine as soon as he logs on and send it to you asap.

Make sure you fat finger the craftersname or just invert letters or something so if he adds the person to his friends list he'll never log on. If you do this create a trial account with the typos name so there is a level 1 with that name.

Buyer adds the typos name to friends list, never sees the person on, then maybe he'll contact the bank asking if the offer is still good to have them do it.

If he doesnt have the sunmotes, and will buy them from you, stall andcontact the seller via your leveling alt, try to get a couple hundred gold discount on them and sell them to the buyer at a profit. Tell the buyer you have them but you are just stepping out, so you'll contact him in a day (or however long it will take). You just want to stall him to not buy the sunmotes from anyone else. You can tell the sellar you are on the other faction and neutral AH costs are murder, so any discount would help. But, even if you can't, buy for 9kg, sell for 9kg.

When Sellar and crafter are offline, and buyer is online, contact buyer in game via your bank and offer to sell the sunmotes. He better still be interested otherwise time to unload them on AH.

Trade the sunmotes for the cash. If you got a discount from the buyer, you made a couple hundred gold. If not then you broke even.

Thanks. Our crafters name is typoCraftersName. Add him to your friends list. He isnt on much, so if its more convient for you, if you like, i can have him craft it for you when he's on and i'll mail it to you if you give me the mats. So that way if he's on when you're not on you can get it quicker.

You gave him 9kg worth of mats, your name is the name of someone they know from the guild that sells the sunmotes. And if they dont trust you, then they'll add your level 1 trial toon to their friends list and that toon will never show online.

You got the mats, now steal the bank

Up to this point it didnt matter if the sellers guild could craft the gloves the buyer wanted. And it still doesnt. You have 2 options.

1. There is a crafter. You know the name, you have the mats. Contact crafter and have him combine it. Now you mail it back to the buyer

He just logged on and was able to get him to combine gloves for you. I dont see you online, so here you go. Let me know you received them okay!

The mail should be going to the buyer, who is on your friends list, but accidently gets sent to your friends bank that has very similiar name. You dont realize it.

2. There is no crafter. There never was one.

Ack sorry man. I was mistaken. We can create these other gloves but not the ones you are looking for. Here are your mats back. I'll keep you on my friends list and let you know if the recipe drops. Let me know you got the mats okay

Again, you dont bother checking the persons name and it gets sent to the bank.

Rob the bank

A few hours later, maybe several, the bank signs on, and now all of a sudden he has a 10kg pair of gloves that was accidently mailed to him. He could be a good samaritian and return them, but he's not. Instead, like any other greedy person, he notices that he has full access to the gbank. he wasnt supposed to. So, he robs it clean. gquits, sends all the stuff to a level 1 and deletes his bank. Too bad you didnt know the persons mains name.

Contact the buyer

Hey, saw you online. Did you get the gloves i mailed you yesterday. The crafter was on last night.

or

Hey, did you get the mats i sent back. I thought we could craft the gloves you were looking for but i was mistaken. Just making sure you got it back okay because i haven't heard from you yet.

Of course the buyer didnt get it back because you didnt mail it to him.

Really? Crap. Let me put in a ticket to find out what happened. It was late last night. Put in a ticket also see if we can get a response quicker.

Put in a ticket

Late last night (12 to 1...somewhere late) i mailed buyer some gloves i got crafted for him or returned some very expensive mats. He is claiming he never received anything. Can you find out who the gloves were sent to and return them?

Amend Ticket

A bit later amend ticket saying your gbank was robbed by whatever this random bank was that shouldn't have gotten access to your bank. Now you are pissed.

Wait for everything to be returned

Your friend has everything, did whatever he could to keep it or whatever. So, if you don't get your gbank back thats fine cuz you know where it's at. Of course you are gonna complain and qq and everything. first gloves get stolen and now your gbank. You're not gonna give up without a fight.

Keep in contact with the buyer see if they are having any luck with the gm to get their gloves back.

If everything goes as planned, and your friend was able to keep everything, you'll walk away with some new gloves and double your gbank.

Conclusion

I used sunmotes as an example. You are looking for a buyer seeking a rare combine that needs expensive mats.

This is not something you can do on a daily basis. However, if you can do it just once, and if it works, then that shoudl be enough.
