For finding characters, log into account management, click Transfer Character and browse trough the servers.

If you want to check what items a character is holding (gold, bankitems, w/e), do following.

1. Download PTR client (get it from http://wow-europe.com/ptr/ or http://test.worldofwarcraft.com/ptr/).
2. Transfer character to PTR.
3. Logon to PTR.

Requires that there is a PTR up, tho.

You can be online on both Live and PTR at the same time. You could copy your character to the PTR to check how much gold the have on your character, or something.

Agreed, and when you do mass scams (like the youtube scam) and get tons of account infos you don't wanna' go through all the servers in wow for each info you get o.O
