[Hunter] Marksman PvP Spec [The Basics]

Guide for those new hunters wanting to pvp at 85.

The Spec: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

    Marksmanship:

    Tier 1

    Go for the Throat 2/2:

auto shot crit give your pet 10 focus? yummy! pets do alot more damage now making this talent worth it.

    Efficiency: 3/3

reduces focus on your two main shots. self explained.

    Tier 2:

    Sic' Em 2/2

free attack for your pet with you crit with arcane/aimed shot.

    Imp Steady Shot 3/3

attack speed on your focus spammer? yes!

    Careful Aim 2/2

free crits on players above 80%? deffo.

    Tier 3:

    Silencing Shot 1/1

our bread and butter for casters and healers.

    Concussive Barrage 2/2

    helps kiting melee.

    Piercing Shots 3/3

    free damage.

    Tier 4:

    TS Aura 1/1

    free ap! yummy (:

    Termination 2/2

free focus when target is below 25%.

    Resistance is Futile 2/2

not really a needed talent, seeming your targets will always moving to get to you. free kill commands when there on your is helpful.

    Tier 5

    Master Marksman 3/3

every 10ish steadys lets you cast a free aimed shot. great stuff!

    Readiness 1/1

the best skill of the tree, finishs the cooldowns of ALL your abililites, from offensive to defensive.

    Tier 6

    Posthaste 2/2

free movement speed when your disengage

    Marked for Death 2/2

again not really a needed talent, great for switching targets and not wasting that global.

    Tier 7

    Chimera Shot 1/1

    Marksmanships nuke'

    BM: Nothing

    Survival

    Tier 1

    Hunter vs. Wild 3/3

    free 10% stam? oh yes

    Pathing 2/3

2% haste, increased focus regen, faster steadys and faster autos not much but its nice in the long run, can be switched for imp serpants sting.

    Tier 2

    Survival Tactics 2/2;

4 seconds off our defensive cooly, a wanted talent and 4% "Spell hit" for our traps!

    Entrapment 2/2

basically entagling roots for 4 seconds when your ice/snake traps are proced.

    Glyphs:

    Prime

Kill Shot, Chimera Shot, Arcane Shot

A free kill shot if yours doesnt kill the target, 1 second off our nuke, 12% more damage on our secondary nuke.

    Major

Disengage, Concussive Shot, Masters Call: Alt Ice Trap

another 5 seconds off our defensive cooly, 2 secs extra on our slow, and 4 seconds more on our slow immune, alt: increases the range of ice trap good for rated BGs.

Minor: Feign Death required + 2 Randoms

    The "Rotation"

In pvp there is no realy rotation, its all situation based but you always want Serpant sting on your target, reason behind this is that your chimera shot will heal you for 5% of your health when serpant sting is on the target, it will also refresh that sting on the target making it a nice bit of constant damage.

my general opener is Serpant Sting>Cobra Shot>Chimera Shot>Spam arcane>x2 Steady, from there it goes to spamming Chimera and Arcane when focus is plentiful and spamming steady when focus is needed. dont forget to kill command when Resistance is futile buff is up, same goes for your free aimed shot when Master marksman is up. These can be viewed on your buff bar or the "Auras" that will appear on your screen.

When actually being targeted its best to have a snake trap at your feet ready to immobilize the player thats trying to get to your melee zone (the zone where your damage is least) remember during this time you have many abilities to your advantage. these range from Wing Clip to slow your target for a medium amount of time Raptor Strike to get a bit of damage into your target, Scatter shot to "Blind" your target this will give you enough time to either run away or plant a ice trap down ready to kite.

When things are getting bad its time to turn to more defensive cooldowns, lets review these.

Disengage, you do a large jump backwards and gain a speed buff, easily counted by melee classes but good non the less.

Masters Call, removes all slows/immobilizes from you and your pet and makes you immune for 4 seconds / 8 glyphed a very powerful cooldown should be used all the time due to its low 1min cooldown.

Deterence, this is basically a pala bubble, 100% chance to parry attacks and deflect spells. remember to face to melee as you can parry from behind.

    Stats:

in order it goes Hit till 5% then Agility > Mastery > Crit > Haste, Agility gives AP(which is more damage) and crit(addtional damage on attacks). Mastery gives us a chance for a double shot very random but great when it happens, haste increases our attack speed and focus regen.

Hope this helps you hunters out at pvp

I wouldn't choose MM for PvP since Aimed shot is kinda usless now. Survival is way better in my oppinion.

I have tried Survival and it really didnt cut it, the burst from MM is so much more, fair enough on the actually defensive side of SV it is great. And aimed shot is not useless, its a free instant cast once you reach 5 stacks of master marksman and it hits around the same as kill shot, maybe 1-1.5k less (:

I suggest to roll BM for PvP. Beastical Wrath and Intimidation is very nice against melee. There is ofcourse a bunch of other reasons (such as BL with core hound), but beastmaster works really well against melee

With MM I almost never us Cobra - but I noticed you tossed it into your rotation. Can you explain? Not being snarky - am genuinely curious.

BM is MUCH more fun, more versatile, and more mobile - but MM does slam hard with that dang Chimera shot. I've seen fully Resil'd players take 30+k from one hit from my Chimera. It almost made wonder if it bypassed resil.
