I agree with most people else here, Hunters arn't hated in raids, they are only hated in PvP :P.
But I personally think hunters are fantastic in raids, their misdirection, greatly helps tanks gain aggro and helps with tricky pulls like Illidari council. At high end raiding, BT and MH, they do outstanding DPS, the two hunters in my guild have 4 parts Gronnstalker(T6) each and they do some fantastic dps, and as Surivial (41 in survival, 20 in MM) They give a fantastic buff for melee which is better than Fericious inspiration. In my raids they are userally only beaten by either some rogues or a mage(Me).

I think the only beef i've heard about hunters in raid was how easy they are to play with their one button macro spam .

surv hunters have expose weakness.. dont forget about that

in SSC/TK and BT/Hyjal they are nice... but 2 GOOD hunters is all any guild needs.. a survival hunter with atleast 800 agility unbuffed and a BM hunter... and depending on who you use for your main source of raid DPS will determine what kind of hunter your bring... if you use alot of melee then you want a survival hunter... if you use alot of range(mages/warlocks/balance druids/elemental shaman) then you want a BM hunter... if you need more info or anything just ask

    i miss playing my hunter

edit: btw in my guild hunters were hated.. A LOT!!!

not true.. it goes something like this
    BM>mm>surv for dps
    surv>BM>mm for raid utility

frankly if your in a raid for the SOUL purpose for doing damage and your NOT BM, your not doing the most damage you can..

and if a hunter is in the top 3 in the damage meters your raid needs to pick up the DPS!

You only want 1 really good active survival hunter on at once, survival requires at least (to be really effective that is) about 650 agility UNBUFFED, which is easily doable with t5 gear and agility enchants. Right now, one of the hunters in my guild is waiting until we down more bosses in BT before getting the gear for survival.

But yeah, BM is better until you get more agility.
    Blasphemy!

you need MUCH more then 650 agility unbuffed.... try 750+ lol
and T5(or equivalent) gear you should have about 850 agility or more...
i had 840 in mostly kara gear...

    general rules for survival...
    1) all available sockets should have +agil gems in them...
    2) you should have +35 agility NOT savagery on your weapon
    3) +28 crit scopes are your friend, no +12 damage scopes!
    4) uhh yeah, other stuff, you know... Just dont be a huntard!

Survival is VERY viable for expose weakness BUT you must not socket ANYTHING but AGI, not hit + agi, just agi. It is very gear dependant. Do not try w/o 30%+ crit.

P.S also could be that so many botters and chinese gold farmers play hunter because its like easy to lvl, not alot of skill or concentration needed and it isn't heavily gear dependant. Save for bow and gun.

Hunters are the best DPS in my mind. I play a Hunter and love everyminute we have almost 5-6 hunters in everyraid. Everyone told us we were stupid for having that many huntards and that we wouldent go anywhere. We went from kara to Hyjal in 1 month....and are now 3 bosses in on Sunwell.

Are hunters are some of the best on the server and we are always in the top 8 on DPS with a few of us usually number 2 and 3
