I believe they didn't fail, but they "won" in a shitty way.
WoW has like 10 mill peeps playing. There were ca. 8-9 mill before BC which means 2-3 million stopped playing, the rest got forced to buy the expansion.
(and then prolly got disapointed)

They didn't really make a good selution for the players that loved pre-bc... They earned on it, but in a bad way. //gief pre-bc realm's//
