"Hacking"

World of Warcraft account hacking has gone way up this holiday season. Just check out the WoW forums...tons of people are being hacked every day. Exactly how are they getting "hacked", though?

Obviously, the first assumption is "lol they're dumb they downloaded a virus", which certainly happens. Many dumb things like "Click Here For Free Gold!" with keyloggers in them. But not everyone's so stupid.

We all know that you can get a keylogger from a website, through some sort of security exploit. Windows Media Player is one example...a while back, people with an old-ish version of Windows Media Player could go on a site and get a keylogger or a virus through some weird exploit.

But, how are so many people getting hacked? Is there always something to exploit?

I personally use Mozilla Firefox with NoScript, which means no scripts will run on a website unless I give them permission. If I feel like a site's a bit suspicious, I just won't let any scripts run, therefore not giving a chance for anything to be exploited.

What do you guys think? Did someone find some sort of exploit that only a select few know about, and are they taking advantage of it by stealing tons of WoW accounts through a popular site? Or are there just tons of really, really stupid people out there?

Wow. First off, learn English.

Second...not everyone trades accounts. Check out the World of Warcraft Customer Service forum. The people there genuinely get hacked, as in keylogger-hacked.

Holidays = more newbs buying/trading accounts for friends... meaning a lot of scam opportunity...

This is exactly why i don't like mmowned... "Omg a leecher, screw off" "I hate leechers" "Leechers are so stupid...hes talking back to a donater" It doesn't matter what damn rank you are...hell even Burlex could be considered a leecher on this site...like half the leecher population on this site are probaly smarter then the rest of the people on mmowned.

I'm not a leecher. I have helped a few people on these forums greatly, and have posted one truly good scam.

But anyway...

I'm not "talking back" to anyone. I'm just saying his English is extremely poor.

And I am not whining about hacking or scamming. I DO scam people. I'm just wondering why so many people are getting hacked.

And by the way, when I refer to hacking, I mean as in a keylogger. A lot of people who think they got hacked usually are just ones who have fallen victim to a phishing page or e-mail phishing.

I infect a lot with Poison Ivy, I think that naturally as people learn more about the net and more people are using the net there will be more malicious use as well. WoW is such a popular game that wow accounts are more of a "currency" now more then ever.
