World of Warcraft Patch 6.2.2 Released

For what began as a patch to simply add flying to Draenor, World of Warcraft’s Patch 6.2.2 has taken longer than many expected, but brought a raft of changes and features along with it. Mercenary Mode, World Event updates and new rewards for Timewalking Dungeons are just some of the features brought to the table.

The largest, and perhaps most notable change made in this patch is the addition of Flying, after a large backlash after Ion Hazzikostas (Watcher) announced there would be no flying in Draenor, or any future expansions for that matter. With the main thread and its follow-up threads reaching well over 1,300 pages on the official forums, a Twitter campaign and countless more threads on Reddit and other fansites, Blizzard finally decided to add flying - though taking a different route from the previous approaches.

Players who’ve completed the achievement Draenor Pathfinder, which was first made available in Patch 6.2 will be able to fly all over Draenor, with any character on their account. While it is a break away from the traditional model of purchasing the ability to fly from a trainer for a gold fee, the fact that flying was brought back for those who’ve completed the Draenor open-world content has pleased many.

Mercenary Mode also came out with this patch, allowing players from a faction which has excessively long queue times for random Battlegrounds and Ashran to join and play as the other faction, in order to help alleviate queue times. While some bugs have been discovered, including exploits such as picking up friendly flags in CTF maps, preventing the team from winning, it is still early days. You can find out more here.

As pointed out in phantom325’s thread, Patch 6.2.2 has added a number of items that appear to be the gear provided for Legion’s Level 100 boost. While it may have been added this patch because they could, it also leaves the possibility of Blizzard opening pre-orders for the next expansion with this patches lifetime.

Furthermore, the addition of the Digital Deluxe/Collector’s Edition Mount and Pet for Legion - the Illidari Felstalker, a mount version of the Warlock pet, and Nibbles, the smaller and cuter version, are present in the game files too.

Timewalking Dungeons have gotten some more love since they were added last patch, by bringing the nostalgia train filled with Timewarped versions of the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King Justice Badge gear. Featuring the same models as their lower level counterparts, these items can be bought using Timewarped Badges, a new currency that functions the same as the Badges and Points of old. For those that don’t need or aren’t interested in the gear - reputation tokens, toys and mounts are also available for purchase using the badges.

Both Hallow’s End and Winter’s Veil have received a makeover, bringing them up to date and more in-line with newer gameplay styles and rewards, including a Yeti mount that has been long awaited by some. There are also rewards that will allow you to decorate your Garrison and their guards in a Holiday theme.

Other additions include catch-up mechanics for the Legendary Ring quest, allowing you to purchase the drops with Apexis Crystals, a Heavenly Azure Cloud Serpent reward for collecting 300 mounts, new pets from Rare Drops in Tanaan and Nagrand, the "Crashin' Thrashin" title for collecting 200 toys and a yet-unusued Inflatable Thunderfury.

With so many additions in a minor patch, including all the data for Legion-related materials, combined with the fact Blizzard has stated that 6.2 is the last major patch for Warlords of Draenor, it's quite possible that this will be the last patch before Legion's pre-patch comes out. I'm close. I'll be working on it later in the year. It's pretty sexy, but I think it'll just go into the Favourite Mounts rotation.

I think flying has turned out pretty fun so far, and I'm already really enjoying the extended timewalking event. I think the extension on events was badly needed.
