    New Player

    Hi,
I have never played WoW Retail in my life but i was hoping to start with the release of WoD. Being an achievement whore in many a games, i was curious to know if new players can ever catch up to to the Veterans with regards to achievement points. 'Wowprogress' ladder has players sitting at 21k+ Achievement points. Considering so many achievements have been made impossible to obtain now, can i ever reach those numbers?

Appreciate any helpful reply on this.

Hmmm, I would say no especially if your are going to start wow in WoD. Honestly it depends on how much time and effort you put in to it.

Achievements that are not available to players any more are marked as Feats of Strength - These award 0 points! - Hope that helps.

Realistically, you probably won't be making to 21k achievement points but 21k seems pretty high for an average player. You' must be looking at the top ranked players.

Honestly, achievement points don't make the player, don't worry about how many points you have vs some guy playing since 2006. Only thing that honestly matters is your gear, and your ability. No one will turn you down for a raid because you have 2k points, they will how ever turn you down because you have shitty gear. Focus on that.

You may reach those numbers, but it's going to take you YEARS of VERY active play

It would take quite a lot of time and effort to reach that many achievement points on a new account. Most of the accounts with such a large amount have been earning them since they were introduced to the game right at the end of TBC. Assuming those accounts are still active it's likely you could never catch up to them. If you want to play the game and try to get as many achievements as possible do it for fun but know that you are at a significant disadvantage if you want to have as much as the top accounts. After a year or half a year of play if all you focus on is achievements you could easily have more than the average player.

I appreciate all the feedback guys. There is something else intriguing me based on the replies. If some achievements have been converted to Feats of Strength for 0 points, do players who earned them before that happened still retain those points?

Example: If i got an achievement in TBC giving me 10 Achievement points, which later became FoS in WotLK but still obtainable, will i retain those points in WotLK? If yes, technically a new player starting at WotLK would never be able to get the amount of points i can have. Right?

My earlier question was really confirming if it was possible or no, irrespective of play style. More to do with the game mechanics now.

I'm 99% sure they didnt start until WOTLK, so anything that is a feat of strength would be considered no pointers. If you'd like I'm looking to RAF someone. I've been playing again for about 8 months and already hit 8k achievement points(with tons of easy ones to go.) PM me if you're interested!

Achievements were implemented in Patch 3.0.2 (the first patch of WOTLK) and I don't believe players who have earned them prior to them becoming FoS retain the points accumulated by the FoS; I only have 12k achievement points after playing for 9 years. However, that's without having them as my goal so I believe it's entirly possible to get to 21k if you really try for it. Once again however, it's more than likely that you'll at some point need to become above average in both PvP in PvE.

YOu cant get 21k achievements, you would have to had start playing in vanilla, but you can still get a ton. I started in 2011 in cata and I dont really try to get achievements but I still have 7k playing a few hours a day

Every achivement that award points is still obtainable. He can do it, but it is very long and hard path.

Why would he have to have started playing in Vanilla? There are currently 2057 achievements availible; if he gets all of them and we assume, at minimum , that every achievement is worth 10 points, that's atleast 20570 points and as we know not every achievement is worth 10 points.

You were right btw, achievements were introduced in patch 3.0.2, the first patch of Wrath.

Will be quite the long haul. Don't expect it to be easy, but you can probably get your points quite high if you're focusing on it.

Use one main character. You will need to level alts for other achievements, but using one for the majority will greatly cut your time. Try to break down each category of achievements and make sure you use a strong class for these like Hunter or DK.

Questing is probably the best to start with since you're new. It will provide somewhat decent gold and will probably complete your exploration as well. This will take an extremely long time though.
Exploration is most likely the easiest and will finished with Questing.
Player vs player is going to be one of the worst IMO. Long, tough, and some will be unachievable depending on your skill level.
Early dungeon and raids will be easy and another thing you can do while doing the quests to help build up gold.
WoD raids will require you to be keeping up with the game these may be ones you'll avoid depending on your time sink.
Professions isn't bad. You should probably pick up mining and herb at the start since you'll be able to get more gold/material for other professions while you quest.
Reputation. Another awful one and one I know very little about.
Scenarios I don't know enough about since I just came back to WoW. They seem not too important to worry about since they're only 10 each. Something you'll probably finish up in later stages. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
World Events. Obvious. Just do the events as they occur. Obviously will take at least a year to finish, but I doubt you'll be close to finishing up a lot of categories in a year anyway.
Pet Battles. Pretty simple but the catching will kill you. Another huge time sink for very few points.

So, an incredibly high amount of time will be needed. But, not impossible and very few will be difficult in terms of skill. Good luck if you aim for the long haul.
