Recently Watcher, one of the game designers for Blizzard stated in this thread that "in 6.0 auction houses are unified between factions on a given server".
What does this mean for me though Phantom?
I'm glad you asked! For some people, especially those that are on a faction that is severely imbalanced on the realm they are playing on, this will be a very welcome change. However, for others' who currently control the market in specific areas (i.e glyphs) problems could occur when the merge does happen.
What can I do to prepare for this?
If you're on a fairly balanced realm, odds are both auction houses will be pretty well stocked. I highly recommend making an alt on the other faction and monitoring the Auction House. Scope out what sells for low prices on your faction, but high prices on theirs. If you do your research well, there will be a lot of gold waiting to be made.
Since the factions will be merged Auction house wise, what will happen to the Neutral Auction House?
This is one of the main questions I have as well. Whether or not they'll keep it as a kind of side Auction House or get rid of it altogether, I'm anxious to see what will happen to it.
But Phantom, I don't care about making gold!
That's a shame. But if not, just sit back and relax. You shouldn't notice too much of a difference overall, but the auction house will be more stocked.
Anyways, I would love to hear y'alls feedback. Do you think this is a good change overall? Will you be happy to see this on your realm? Will you even notice it?
