Best way to go about changing battlenet name?

Going to try change account name to my real name. The initial name I used has same surname but different first name. All payments made on the account were with my credit card.

Which would be best way for me to go about asking for a name change, would appreaciate any tips to maximise the chances of it happening.

Hey night. The best way to go about this is most likely contacting a bnet GM through their live chat service. Wait times are rather short as well. You would have to provide personal identification such as an ID and Birth Certificate and reasoning behind why you put the incorrect name. If the first name is a family member or something along those lines, you will need to provide their identification and how you are related.

Its not a family member so that route is shut unfortunately. I know GM will definately let you change name if the used name is complete bogus like James Bond, Donald Duck etc or if you get legal name change, mine falls into neither categories; at time creation not using real first name was more habbit of not providing private information. Turns out I spent a lot more time on WoW than I initially expected. Want to get it all in order before I invest more into extra accounts and WoD upgrades.

Hmm. I'm not sure of any way around it then.. If you say that you used a false name it is likely they will close the account due to you providing false information, and it's against their terms I believe. I personally have an incorrect name on mine and have had no troubles or worries upgrading the account or whatever.

Yes though if anything happens in future and I'm asked to send identification the account is pretty much lost. Want to avoid that before I invest more time etc. I know I'm not on right side of their terms but thought maybe someone could come up with way to go around this, maybe someone who has successfully got name change due to specific circumstances they presented.

They require a government issued photo ID to proceed with a name change. I have never had any luck going to a GM or calling their customer service to change the name on an account, I have always had to use this form. As long as its obvious that the current name on the account is not your real name, like an avatar/user name, they should change it.

Adding that you want to change the name for security reasons if you were ever to get hacked or have your account compromised wont hurt either.

It's not a rumor. I have seen people have their account closed due to false names. My point of reference is that of people trying to change the name from an account they purchased or used both a false first and last name. Mainly the first example, as they do more research and I assume they see different IP logins, credit cards with different names, etc. And then become suspect of a sold/bought account.

Yes it is, maybe not on your part but it is miss-information. Wanting to change a name the name on an account you own and happened to register with false information, is not grounds to closing the account. The reason the form exists is because its not obvious especially to new player how important to account security it is to have it in your legal name.

The scenario of changing the name on a purchased account, that is very different. 9 times out of 10 people claim their accounts have gotten 'banned' when they actually have only been 'locked'. Blizzard does this until they can verify the true owner of the account; you might think you have all the necessary information but if any portion of it doesn't match or is missing you won't get access to the account back.
