So my friend gave me a world of warcraft account about a year ago so I could rez it for myself and get the mount and I never did anything with it after that. Yesterday, I had this random urge to get the account back(I have no idea why lol, and I spent about an hour trying to do so). The account isn't under my name and I don't remember the email that the account had on it, BUT, I did have the security answer, the CD key, and the name on the account. I'm not a very bright person, so I called blizzard and told them the account was given to me by my uncle(i have no idea why I didn't just say it was mine, don't ask.) Since the account wasn't under my name, and I didn't know the email registered to the account, they couldn't do anything for me.

A little while later, I realized I had the CD key and security answer so I called back and told them the same thing but this time I had the CD key and security answer, and they said the same thing. I kind of felt like giving up on it, but I decided to make a ticket and live chat with them through the website, ON MY MAIN ACCOUNT WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NAME LOL, and the GM I was talking to had to be new or something because I mentioned that the account wasn't originally mine, I don't know the email, and all I had was the CD key and security answer.. He changed the email to something I asked him to without hesitation once I told him the info.. This just proves how broken blizzard is. All it takes is 3 tries for a hacker to get your account rofl.

tl;dr, blizzard is NOT brilliant.

Why? they do trust you if you got the info, how else are you to get the CD KEY and secret question and name you mentioned? ( i mean you broke into the guys house stole only hes wow copy then you proceded to threaten him with a knife to hes tounge yelling at him to give you the secret question and name of the account. ) so you could call blizzard and then post here? Most be a 50/50 characters with 1m gold each and all gear ingame, gm commands avaiable to the char ye?

The reason the phone support said no is because #1 they cannot discuss the accounts with anyone then the original owner over phone. #2 you were not the original owned #3 the gm who did probably trackt your history on that acc and saw you had ressurected it, meaning you probly know the guy / knew or bought the acc in false name or your uncle (AS the phone support do leave notes next to your call in that he prbly read)

You obviously give Blizzard far more credit than they deserve.

You have to realize they have millions of customers to support. Which means that at LEAST have hundreds of support people handling tickets and such, I would guess it might even be near a thousand based on the support centers I've been in for various products. With that in mind it is very possible to get VASTLY different results just by trying again. You got lucky...

In the future, don't volunteer anything they don't ask for. Give your initial story that you need something done and then wait for them to respond. Just like in the US with the miranda rights...anything say can and will be used against you...

If they need a better excuse they will ask for it.
