Was someone being banned for exploring the game?

Hi guys

was someone of you ever banned for exploration?
i mean just bug out of an instance and explore the world?

It shouldnt be trackable by a gamemaster right?

I was once whispered by a GM in vanilla whilst exploring Mt. Hyjal with a friend. I was told I would be logged out and to check my email for further action against me and before I knew it I was DC'd. My account was temp locked and I got an email later that day informing me of the 72 Hr. temp ban. When I got access back I was in the GY in the Barrens. I've heard many stories from others receiving perm. bans for exploration.
