Advantages of professions for a cloth wearer?

    Hello,

I'm back from about 1.5 year break from wow and just getting back into it. I've looked at all of the professions and it seems like all non-gathering professions have the same thing in common (+80int). It's either +40int enchants to rings = 80int total or engineer with the 480 proc for gloves (averages to 80int) etc. So my question is, which have the most potential for an advantage in pve / pvp situation and how do you use them to give you an edge? Also perhaps you use one to make a decent amount of gold and that is your advantage? Any feedback would be great!

    Kind Regards,
    Heyaeveryone

If you want to make loads of gold do jewel crafting, engineering is amazing though and gives most bonuses in terms of pve and bgs and it also has some fun random stuff.

What would be the best way to make gold doing JC? I've tried JC before, but it never worked out.

    Confucius,

Will you add a bit of detail of why you think engineering is amazing and gives the most bonuses in terms of pve and bgs? I'll take your word for it, but I'd like to know your reasoning.

    Thanks for your reply,
    Heya

    phantom325,

You high jacking mo fo! I can't say for recent times, but used to make 10s of 1,000s of gold with mining / jewel crafting. I'd mine then prospect the adamantite ore, then cut the gems for whatever was hot at that time. Other than putting them on the AH and potentially flooding it, I'd also spam in /2 and advertise very reasonable prices. I made a lot of money just at the start, but after I made a client base I literally had more gold than I could spend 100,000 - 150,000g all the time and that was with spending gold on anything I wanted or needed.

I would say Jewelcrafting combined with Enchanting are two of the professions most likely to net you a very high income. I do as follows:

    1. Buy Elementium at around 20g/stack, never higher than 25g/stack. Buy Pyrite around 30g/stack, never higher than this really. Adamantite at anything below 80g/stack(not that much at a time though, I will go into detail later). I then prospect this. The prices above are for my realm, you would have to do some research for at what levels it is worth doing this at your realm. These numbers ensure a very high profit and still allows me to buy around 1000 ore/day should I want to. I've never seen Elementium lower than 18/g stack though. You will probably make a profit all the way up to say 40g/stack but after that it's definitely not worth it.

Prospecting Elementium and Pyrite ore will give you:
Pyrite Ore - Item - World of Warcraft
Elementium Ore - Item - World of Warcraft

    2. Cut the blue gems you get into the best selling blue gems, as a thumb rule though you don't want to cut them all into the same. You have a higher chance of selling them if you make 2-3 different kinds if you get 10+ of the same blue gem.

    3. Create the following items from the green gems:
Carnelian Spikes - Spell - World of Warcraft
Alicite Pendant - Spell - World of Warcraft
Hessonite Band - Spell - World of Warcraft
Jasper Ring - Spell - World of Warcraft
Nightstone Choker - Spell - World of Warcraft

    4. Disenchant the above mentioned items into: Heavenly Shards, Greater Celestial Essence, Lesser Celestial Essence and Hypnotic Dust

    5. I then either use the above mentioned materials to create either enchants that I sell on the auction house, or sell the mats themselves depending on profit and day of the week.

    When I then put this on the auction house there are a few things to consider;
    • What day of the week is it? Enchants and blue gems are probably selling for a higher price on a tuesday or wednesday depending in what region you play in. This is the day of the week that the raids reset. I would say this is the best day to sell them on. Make sure you put it up around when raids start. Which is at 18.00-19.00 as people will hearthstone to get their gems and enchants mid raid.
    • Adamantite Ore gives you Adamantite Powder. Sell this in stacks of 4 as it is only required for Mercurial Adamantite - Spell - World of Warcraft. You can sell the green gems you get from this without doing anything to them. The reason why you don't want to buy more than maybe 8-10 stacks of Adamantite Ore is that only that much of Adamantite Powder will sell at any given time
    • Make sure you don't trust Auctioneers undercutting feature too much. It will always undercut the lowest seller. Make sure you look and put your stuff up at a reasonable price. One person putting something up for 55% of the price doesn't mean you should put yours lower to get it sold. Rather wait for another day then.
    • Make sure you put it up for 12 hours. Prices vary a lot and you don't want to miss out on a lot of gold just because somebody undercuts you by 1 gold or so.
These are guidelines/pointers I worked out myself without following any guide. I am sure there are other tips worth mentioning but this got me from 700g to 30k gold in about a week and a half. Just be active and search the auction house for cheap ore whenever you can. And buy as much as you can when it is cheap. This was a bit rushed, planning on writing something more well written in the guides forum sometime soon.

Sorry for the high jack :P
By the way, thanks for this, I'm 525 mining and 525 Herbalism, but just botting Herb over night only nets in around 4kg per night, since herbs are terribad on my server. So, going to switch it for JC, thanks for the info!
