Does it still work when you have a name you want and you delete your main character and ask a gm to recover it but you create a new character with the main characters name so you get a free name change?

I don't see why not. To be careful I'd have your main deleted for a little while so the GM doesn't just tell you that you're out of luck.

It depends on the GM you get, some of them catch on and either delete the level one or make you delete it before they recover it. Some don't bother looking and just restore it. So yes it stills works, just not a 100% guaranteed method.

I do it all the time, The trick is to get a friend to create the toon with the same name, about an hour after you delete your toon.

KEEP IN MIND. You are limited to how many character restorations you can have.. though .. I am pushing 20 +

I just created a trial account on a secound e-mail 2 min's after I did the charcter deletion.
Then I leveled on my trial till 10 or something.. Then when I logt in again I could change my name and had a character restore :P

Confirmed, it does work! Thanks a lot for this topic & your confirmations! If you can get a friend to create a char with your name after you delete it, like I did, it's even better. A DK I think would be the most legit thing. I also suggest to create a couple more chars (2-3 chars of lvl 1 or so) just so it would look like you've deleted the char you want to be renamed by accident. Also, do not mention anything about name change or stuff like that, the more fast you're done chatting with the GM, the more legit & safe you'll be. Thanks again for this topic!

Yea I would be careful doing that because they are starting to catch on to that. eventually they just changed you name to something random like "yournamebobbilly".
