simple modle swaps on free to play account??

Came back to wow on a free2play account and was wanting to do some simple modle swaps. Back in the day i did some with a simple hexeditor on item cache. I though i would try this again but item cache is no longer in my enUs folder. Currently have creature, itemtext, gameobject, npc, pagetext, quest and wow cache but no item. I am wondering if this is a result of it being f2p so i tried installing my old wtlk disk (previously had just downloaded the free game) and still nothing. Does this folder not exist, as in this type of mod is nolonger possible? or do i need to log on to a paid account for the cache to be created? my only cheap idea left is to try one of the old 30day trials that came with the wow disks and see if a cache is created. Any help is appreciated, just want some vintage gear on my lvl 20twink
