Some of you out there might be getting some slow download speeds on the Background Downloader.
You will need some type of torrent downloader, I prefer µTorrent and that is what I'll be using in my examples.
- Install µTorrent.
- Start the Background Downloader and then close it out. Now navigate to your Cache folder that is located in the World of Warcraft folder. Double click BackgroundDownload.torrent.
- Change the Download location to your World of Warcraft folder. It should automatically create the "Updates" folder. If not then select "Updates" as your destination.
- Right-click the download and set Bandwidth Allocation to "High"
- It may need to check the already downloaded parts if you have downloaded parts 1 and 2 already. It will start downloading as soon as it's done.
More tips to increase your download speed further.
These are not specific to patch downloads, but µTorrent in general.
If your Upload rate is too high for a torrent and it's killing your download speed, you can limit it by right-clicking the torrent and going to the "Bandwidth Allocation" menu. I'd recommend setting the limit to 25 or 40 kb/s
Have your settings set to what I have shown in the screenshots.
And make sure Scheduler and Web UI are disabled.
