Doubt it. I guess they planned to do it, but due to the "positive" feedback they scrapped it. I don't think it was an experiment.

that may be so. it's way more likely than the whole "omg social experiment!" theory at least, hahah. (:

however, while facebook primarily deals with real people, wow doesn't - you're playing fictional characters in a fantasy world. getting to know others on a moreso personal level is and should always be optional - and for blizzard to overlook that and risk their customers' privacy just to stay "hip" does not bode well.
