Friend trying to downgrade WoW to 3.0.9

So my friend is trying to downgrade wow to 3.0.9 to play on private servers. He does everything correctly and then he gets stuck. Here is what he does.

    1. Deletes patch.mpq
    2. Runs repair (clicks "check files only" when repairing)
    3. Runs the launcher

Then when the launcher comes up it runs a small patch then after the patch he gets this:

This update does not need to be applied. It requires a version of "Launcher.exe" older than 1.8.0.394, but you already have version 2.0.0.481.

    what is going on?

    Try this:
    Code:
    Guide by CrAzY of HSForum.net

Here is a very simple way of downgrading to 1.0, no repair needed.

    Steps
    ---------------------

Step 1) Go to your World of Warcraft Directory (Normally C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft)
Step 2) Go to The Data Folder (C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data)
    Step 3) Delete These Files: patch.mpq, patch-2.mpq, patch-3.mpq (If patch 2 or 3 aren't there, that's fine)
Step 4) Place this in your WoW directory (Step 1): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q0014FUL
Step 5) Replace that wow.exe with your current one

    ---------------------

Your done, now you may patch.

I uploaded that wow.exe, Its just from the base.mpq (In your data folder) which I extracted with winmpq.

Please when copying this guide, please leave who wrote it and from what site.
As far as I know you just have to go back to vanilla, as I think it writes over/deletes the previous patch. However, I could be very wrong.

Ok, he figured it out. When he ran the launcher it was trying to update his main wow folder because the directories were the same name. So if anyone is having this same problem, just rename the folder you are going to use for your private server.

don't use the launcher anymore, use the one thats says Wow in the program files folder... If you use the launcher it is going to make you patch up..
