I've been picking apart Joana's guide. The trick with this guide is that Every link to any offsite references:
Code:
http://www.joanaguides.com/33/2ab15186754.php?56434542345
With PHP we see after *.php?x where x=numericaly coded link. How this works is:
Browser->User click link->joanaguides's .php file is spoken to->IF unsuspicious THEN-> Take user to the item clicked (Videos, alakazam)
IF suspicious amounts of activity is spotted clicking through these links->Redirect user to "Guide is outdated!" page
This is Joana's method of tracking. Each guide is given a link system, so yours might be
Code:
http://www.joanaguides.com/33/2ab15186754.php?56434542345
And the other guy's is
Code:
http://www.joanaguides.com/33/5ab156234254.php?56434542345
That way if a ton of IPs are clicking through any select links on the guide, it will raise the red flag and alert the eyes to check it out. They investigate, and then they tell the .php script that the next time a user clicks one of the links in the guide it will give them an "Out of date" page, in place of taking them to the content requested.
What I'm planning to do is going through manually and re-doing the entire guide's links. Every time I see the reference through the Joana's gateway PHP script, I will find the equivilent and replace it.
I can do this one of two ways. I'll need a person to send me their unreleased guide (Two IPs clicking through the guide isn't suspicious and won't be throwing up a red flag.) so I can go through and follow each link, and then edit the file accordingly. This will make it easier, I also would't have to hunt down every video, and it will be the exact same as Joana intented, but without the gateway.
Second way is I go through thottbot or alakazam and make new links per each link. It'll be more time consuming to go and play fetch, where as having an unreleased guide will allow me to click->copy->paste.
If anyone is interested, let me know. I will not release your copy on the internet in any way and your privacy is very important. The goal here is to give everyone a standard joana's guide that can be released without getting the original distributor in trouble. That's how mancow/joana is finding out who has shared their guide.
