    Re: playing wow at school

I know exactly what he means, and the answer is ; no. You really think the computer's of a public school can handle WoW ?

Get addicted to runescape, then you can play it.

Yea most schools make it so your username or the comp can only have like 25 megabytes of memory, depending on how smart you school is and how your school's network is made.
It's true, I pwn faces irl

    Re: playing wow at school

    Where you from?

I'm a systems administrator for a City Learning Centre attached to a school & we as part of the agreement we manage the schools network aswell.

We have actually got a couple of kids who play it at school, I mostly let them cause they were smart enough to find a way to do it.

Here is how I would do it:

Get an external hard drive, if if you can afford it a 6gig flash drive (like the XD cards you get for cameras) do a copy of WoW to it. WoW can just be copied form your local installation as it creates all it's registry keys on running.

Next you need a copy of PS tools off the microsoft website found at:

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...s/pstools.mspx

once you have them put them in a seperate folder for later use, you may or may not need them.

Now personally in my experiance most schools, colleges etc will leave the ports for WOW open, especially if they are using a 2003 ISA server as this comes under the "allow higer ports" rule which is inbuilt into ISA to allow certain web traffic. & WOW is clever enough to know if it can't connect VIA host name it will default to static IP.

So once you got the PS tools & WOW you need to write yourself a lil batch executable file to allow run the PSEXEC file to tell wow to run. Personally i don't know the syntax for the PSEXEC but they should be on the site i posted above. write it out in notepad, save it as something like launch.bat (make sure there is no .txt extension, if there is delete it)

now goto school, try running wow.exe first, if that doesn't work try the batch file you made.

If neither of those works good luck to you, your Systems Admin is much more strict than I am (or less lazy) & has a group policy object in active directory with a list of allowed & trusted executable files, you'll either have to hack it (very unlikley) or wait untill he leaves himself logged on & his office open & edit it (again very unlikley).

If it launches but can't connect then it's a custom rule in ISA or if the school uses a educational ISP (like we use derwentside but they are completely lax in their security) they are blocking the port needed to connect.

An option around this would be to use something like himatchi to connect to your home PC & then share your PC's internet connection, I don't think this would be too laggy, especially if your school has a decent net connection (we have a 34mb connection) & you have atleast 2mb at home.

I hope this helps, with a little research & deviousness this is MORE than doable

    Re: playing wow at school

well if you do it from an external HD plugged into USB 2.0 or firewire 400 (standard firewire) it's fine, dunno about a flash drive though never tried, it, my WOW is on an external HDD that i take to work so i don't have to keep 2 copies upto date with different mods I'm using (although i could just make a copy of the interface fodler come to think of it)

    Re: playing wow at school

My friend plays WoW at school from his ipod. What he does(as far as i can tell) is that he drags the WoW folder to his ipod, then whenever at school, he plugs in his ipod to the computer, and opens up WoW from the Ipod drive.

    Re: playing wow at school

Maybe you don't have to play it in school, you should wait until you get home. It's really difficult to do that maybe your teacher may caught you and bring you to detention or suspend you. Just be patient and besides when your at home you can play it all the time you want.
