[Theory] Why blizzard had a banwave/lich king leek

Well I was thinking about the banwave, and the wotlk leek. So I came up with this,

As we all now AoC was coming out very soon before this, (Maybe the banwave was after I dunno) But any way, blizzard bans TONS of people for 2 resons, 1: To stop hackers 2: Try to get players to play the wotlk leek. Blizzard new that the emulator community would be all over this is. So blizzard also new that if they ban lots of people that they will get the hackers off Plus get people to play wotlk beta and not play AoC. It was a Win Win but at the same time a Win Lose for blizzard. Any way thats my Theory about this whole thing.
    ahhhh

Tbh i think that leeking it by purpise would make them loose money. When people try the expansion pack before it's out they might not buy it because they didnt like the content, if they never tried it they would probs buy it without knowing they wouldnt like it.

There are many flaws with that theory.

That is definitely not what happened at all.

They were not expecting the leak; someone from the inside leaked it. It happens.

As for the ban...they have always banned botters. It really does not have much of a relation to AoC coming out near the ban date. Blizzard has always, is currently, and always will ban botters. It's just they recently were able to detect it and ban them much more than they were previously able to.

Banning botters = loss of money. There's no other way to look at it. And not many regular players know about the leak; a small percentage of them know that there are private servers you can play it on.

Why do people always have theories for these things? What's with all the conspiracies and all that? Why can't you just accept that a bunch of Muslims flew a plane into the World Trade Center, or that America landed on the moon, or that Blizzard banned a ton of botters one day because they just don't want botters in their game?

Ofcourse the whole leak was because of the AoC release, its so obvious and Blizzard do have brains when it comes to marketing

People will say ahh its just a theory but come on, its pretty obvious, whos so dumb at Blizzard to let people get access to the files that easy? all it took was some patch name guessing

The ban wave however i dont think has much to do with it, they do ban waves several times a year

Clearly you don't even know what happened.

Someone who was in the Friends and Family Alpha leaked it. It was not intentional in the slightest.

Tell me this: if they really, really wanted it to be leaked, then how come every single person who has even hinted at the leak was instantly and permanently banned from the WoW forums? To this day, anyone who mentions it gets a perma ban. A famous Mage class advocate was banned just for listing a few new Mage talents in WotLK.

You dont think Blizzard would of used a safer link to the downloader than the one that was leaked? They could of used an Intranet or even discs sent around with the first set of files. Of course the patch notes got leaked first and that might not of been intentional but for Blizzard it's just more publicity which also happened to be the same week of AoC release, it most likely is just "bad timing" but who knows.

For the bans however, two different things, if it was intentional then i doubt lower Blizzard Staff would actually know about it, only the heads of design/marketing etc, also they have to keep the authoritative image up on there own forums so they will continue to ban people for those reasons alone, however they will know that once its out on the Internet theres no way to remove all the information.

What, do you also believe that the government was behind 9/11?

Why can't some people just accept things for what they are?

Before AoC's release, Blizzard publicly released more info about WotLK, specifically Death Knights.

After its release, they're releasing Season 4.

They know that AoC came out, and they're acting on it, but they did not leak their own alpha client's files, and I cannot imagine why the ban wave would be anything but a coincedence. Every ban wave, Blizzard loses lots of money. They ban bots because they don't want bots in their game. They don't just care about money. In fact, I'd even go as far as saying that they care less about money than other game companies, including MMO companies.

Why does there have to be a theory for this? Why can't we just keep it at "someone inside of the alpha leaked it"?
