Molten Core Hidden Entrance (Possibly)

Everybody knows about dropping into the lava at that fire elemental boss and swimming up the river for an easy un-attuned Molten Core entrance, or talking to the Blood-elf if you are attuned, but when exactly did the developers put a green raid portal here for?

Now that I notice, the coordinates for this mystery portal to Molten Core happens to match up perfectly with the position on the map but I always though that was the Blood-elf that portals you there. Why would you need a portal in the lava directly below somebody who teleports you there?

Edit: Sorry I couldn't get a screenshot of the raid portal, I managed to see it upon falling to my Dc-death when I couldn't be bothered with offline mode. I tried offline mode around 5 mins ago and it's an incredibly fiddly camera and angle to see anything.

If you go through the window you get teleported to molten core. They added this teleporter next to the npc because too much people was going there and the npc became hardly clickable.
This might be why, but i'm curious to see that green portal.

Ah that must be why then, although there is plenty of other complicated things on Wow, not sure why people would think that'd be an entrance for attuned players haha

Nayarly already answered, this was made public in several Blizz posts and at sometime i think even wowhead said that it was a quick way

That "portal" was live since 2005, every Vanilla raider knows it already, even after it was not visual before. The lore behind this, was to run pass the NPC, which gives you the attunement quest, and jump in to the lava from the small window behind him.

But that was shortcutted fast enough in Vanilla - back then (past TBC people dont know ofc) Azeroth was fly-restricted zone, and we were moving to Blackrock Mountain from Searing Gorge, both Ally and Horde, all approaching from the North Entrance to the Blackrock Mountain subzone of course, and jumping straight into the lava, then swim right, or jump from the bridge just right off the entrance and hit the invisible portal while falling!

What Nyarly said. Definitely not a "hidden" entrance...the teleport has been there since vanilla...but I don't think I've ever seen an actual green portal... or if I have I've forgotten it. Would like to see it now.

Ive always wondered about this! When i was leveling my first toon in early TBC (Tbh i spent most of the time fooling around) I was wondering why i kept seeing "You are too low level to enter this instance" When swiming into that area. Keeping in mind i was lvl 56
