My favourite exploration were mainly pre cataclysm, at the time basically any mountain was an exploration/unfinished area since blizzard did not expect people to go up there, instance exploring is fun, but it doesn't feel the same to me and I've been outside every instance in the game already so I don't have much to do, before every zone had an area to reach to, now you can just fly up there. Anyway Ironforge airport would have to be my favourite and also one of my first explorations, lots of npc's doing things, buildings, cave with silithus chat in same area and the flag at the very top + and awesome spot to slowfall off and you could go down towards wetlands and see a mother bear with cubs, some dwarven farms and just have a cool view of that town in wetlands.

Edit: Also GM island, never truly set foot there alive since I couldn't find enough people to do the summoning flying mount in unrecognized zone+knockback glitch, but managed to zone in by running across the edge of the ocean to avoid fatigue NW of darnassus (Was a video Jaburius made, funny to see people in the video comments who obviously didn't play back then calling it fake WoW Secret Places: How to get to GM Island 3.2.2 on LIVE SERVER - YouTube )

There's not much under org anymore, you can fly around freely though, no disconnects unless you go 50+ yards down, an alliance warlock could have some fun there with port I imagine.

I attempted to catalog these areas before the Cataclysm destroyed them forever. I didn't get them all, but I got a good bunch. I called it the Empty Space Series. Those were some of my first videos. Check them out here if you get a chance:

Don't get me wrong, I still go under Orgrimmar and it's still funny, it just had another look back then. It was a large flat area with red textures. I just loved to hang out there.
On top of old orgrimmar was also amazing. It was a hard climb for me at the time, but the levitate bug made it quick, easy and fun. You could get on top of the orgrimmar gate which was a big one. Looking down on all people that were dueling ^^.

Honestly, and this might not be the place, but finding ways to get through dalaran into the many secret basement areas was my favorite part of wrath, even set up a fishbot in the lowest area I could find, worked like a charm!

Such an awesome place. A whole 2 floored submarine to yourself, with windows looking out into the water. Such a cool area, utterly unique - very 'evil lair' like too! I've lost count of the number of times I've been in it while queueing for dungeons and whatnot, bringing guildmates too for duels...and so on. Love it!
One thing that I noticed is that the submarine now counts as under the world, so it DC's you if you move around too much :<

Old Ironforge was one of my favourite explorations pre-cata. Getting down there just felt so Awesome.
Also that underground place outside of Karazhan with the dead bodies floating in the water. very creepy.
Ah, your ears are fine. It's what's between 'em that scares me.

You absolutely sure about that? 'cause I have my main (Strangletusk) parked there 90% of the time while I queue for dungeons and LFR and whatnot when I'm not exploring, and I've never once disconnected there. And that's with me moving around the sub' a lot. In fact, I queued for all of the LFRs available to me (5 of them, not got high enough ilvl for ToT) on Thursday and was running all over the sub while queueing and had no DCs.

Sure it's not just a coincidence and you weren't just DCing due to connection issues?

Well I used the mammoth to get inside the sub at the front of it (at the glass dome) and disconnected there, I was floating inside the sub at one point. I only DC'd when I moved around inside around the dome, was able to do everything else just fine, had a regular ping and no lag on spells. Could just be that spot I guess. I'll check again when I'm out of work :P

Ahh the front of the DOME...yeah that's a DC hotspot. I've disconnected many times when I've accidentally ended up in there. There's a number of occasions where underwater areas like this can result in frequent DCs - the Menethil Harbour submerged house (the two storey one) springs to mind. Going in through the front door of that house where it's half under the world and half not almost always instantly disconnects you.

Something about water + glitching into interior areas makes DCs far more likely - but only really when you're in the process of going from the water -> interior area by glitching.

I've gotta update my own post and say now when i think about it, back days when i was first into exploring my favorite exploration spot was definitely Ironforge! - Both Duelling inside IF to get feared/sheeped into old IF and walljumping from the corner between Dun morogh and Loch Mordan to get up on IF airport

I'd also like to update my answer after thinking about it for a while...

The old Zul'Gurub.... when you broke out of there.... the old Deadwind Pass there was definitely my favorite exploration! Lord I miss that place...
