Is this legal to do? Is it not classed as tampering with the game files? If no, what exactly occurs when you do this? Does it act like a non-live version of the game, like single player almost?

I'm not a lawyer but I believe depending on the country it is actually illegal. As in you're breaking the law.. I don't think you'd get jail time but maybe a fine or something. If you're talking about legal in the terms of ToS then no It's not "legal" and they'll ban you for it if you get caught.

You're simply overwriting one map with another. The client reads the most recent data first. So any custom content you add will be read and loaded before anything else.

This is why all old .mpq model edits you'll find will be called Patch-4-9.mpq or Patch-x.mpq (X being any letter.)

All the npcs in the original zone as well as any Gameobjects are still going to be there in the map swap. (As they are server-side.) You'll also see any players and they'll see you.. Which means if you're walking around in Emerald Dream they'll see you floating through the air, going through objects ect.

So, I'm doing the same thing with 3 characters: 1st one gets to phase 2, 2nd one gets to phase 1 and 3rd one gets to phase 1 as well...
What the f... :confused:

@Dovah: I had some theories how you got there, but since that's a lvl 1 char in your video, I'm actually completely wrong

Finally figured out a way to get past the web of sticky walls in the final phase of Gilneas. Still trying to fully explore it but here's some screenshots to start.

Same here, I just figured it out the other day on accident lol. (It only works in Gilneas btw.. Not every sticky wall.)

Once you get over to the Dalaran side of the gap the sticky walls end but it's almost the exact same as Phase 1
