    Your opinion is needed!

What do you, fellow explorers, think about Exploring with Model Editing?

I need your opinion for the movie i'm making, because i know there are lots of explorers that don't like it, including me but i was thinking of using it for some simple things...

NOT GONNA MENTION THEM :3, wait for it!

    - Thurok

Fast edit: I just noticed i posted in the wrong forum ... but i guess it's fine since i mention exploration..no? dang it

    Your opinion is needed!

Model editing is not exploiting at all and it is very boring to watch explorations where model editing has been involved, sorry =/
Exploration is about the journey, not the destination

Don't entirely agree with this statement, in my eyes exploration has always been about the journey and the destination. Either one of them on their own is dull to me - for example, while I can appreciate the skill it takes someone to wall-jump up a mountain, I don't find it especially interesting because well...it's just a mountain. On the other hand, if someone just posts a video showing themselves reaching some really cool areas but they're just flying through the air to them with ease because they're using hacks, I find that boring too.

In my opinion, for good exploration you need a good combination of journey and destination.

OT: Not a big fan of model-editing due to what I said above - model-editing is solely about the destination, so if someone for example, edited into the game a cool area but also made it so that the area required some exploring to get to (wall-climbing, rocket boot jumps etc etc), then that'd be a lot better in my eyes than what the standard model-edit video is as it stands: someone just moving around in some cool-looking place.

    Oh, an interesting topic !

It really depends on the person, really.

I used to think that model-editing was not exploration at all. But when I understood that many places can't be accessed by "normal" means, but only by model-editing my point of view changed. When I began to be heavily involved in it, I realized that going through the past to see how the maps evolved between alpha/beta/ptr stages is, for myself absolutely fantastic (most notable example was, a few months ago, Gilijim's Isle).

My main rule is that if the place you're trying to reach doesn't require any editing, then you don't need it at all and shouldn't use it. Use it only when it's not accessible "normally".

    My 2 cents,
    fean

I also say no, yes it can make a video look really epic, because some places are so impossible and unknown to get to, but it's not the same as achieving the challenge ingame w/o anything.

I like the pay off after hours & hours of grinding, after many failed wall jumps, many kicks to my PC, the satisfaction of finally getting where you wanted to go. The only way I could enjoy that satisfaction is if I did it without any help. So I'd have to say I'm against model editing : /
