World of Warcraft Water in the 2001 Alpha

Now, this is something I found quite interesting as Blizzard Entertainment have showed us this great upcoming water in Cataclysm, but now that I finally took a look at a trailer from 2001 and studied the graphics a little (especially the water) I find it very interesting how the water from the 2001 trailer looks so much like the one from Cataclysm as in the old trailer. As in this old trailer it's much better then what it is now. If you look closely the water in the trailer from 2001 also got waves and lowers and rises once it hit the beach.

The Cataclysm water is nothing new at all.

Probably that as the average computer back then wasn't anything compared to what we got today. But this is really nice for being the year 2001 as that water is better then most of the water you see at this time as well, with exception of some few games. :P

I have seen the Cataclysm water several times I have actually seen all pics/vids where it is shown. And this water sure is something similar, this got the waves and it raises and lowers here as well. I am not saying it's 100% the same but there's sure is similarities here as why shouldn't they base the Cataclysm water off this one as they already have it? This water got all the same functions as the Cataclysm water though I am not sure about the reflections, and it's hard to get a good view as it's only two clips showing the water and it's really bad quality.

Woah! How could I have missed that until now? :P Yea, that is definitely Cataclysm-like water. Probably less detailed as the water's edge is not soft when it washes in/out (you can see them clearly, they do not change) while in Cataclysm, the edges vanish as they wash out and they aren't as defined/strong as the water in Alpha was. Cataclysm water actually looks like water, Alpha water looks somewhat like ice. There is a difference

The earliest leak was from December of 2003, which was much later into development than the 2001 trailer. I've been looking for the earlier version for a long, long time. No luck yet. As far as I know, the earlier builds were never leaked.

I wonder if the water from the 2001 trailer compares to the water in Warcraft 3?

The ONLY feature that I see in the 2001 client that WoW doesn't already have is the water rising and falling. The "waves" is just like the "waves" we already see, only instead of waves it looks like choppy ocean water.
