This is and has been part of the game since release, I remember trekking through that very spot about 4 years ago when I made a shaman. I believe the quest objective is to "find the hidden path". Might be mistaken, nevertheless it's intended for public view. Never knew gold farmers frequented the pathway though.

this is just about as old as the game is, the path is used in a low level shaman quests for trolls and orcs
