Still i would call this more of a bug than a exploit.

It may be because Thunderhorn was merged with wildhammer, there was some strange bugs on recently merged servers as like guild bank wiped and so on, maybe this had something to do with that aswell..
EDIT: little bit explaining to that theory is you´have started the transfer off the TH when they started doing backups of some sort and your transfer was processed within that tiemframe of mainetance, so your char was been transfered but also as they done merging these two realms they might done some recent backup with your char still there (because it was here before, and it didn´t counted in the realm backup - merge/whatever). Its just my thought but i´m sure it has to do something with it.

You have also the names of your chars on the bottom middle of the screen.
Remove this if u don't want to be banned ( ban duped ? )

If have drop the same "exploit" (or bug) with my char (2/3 month ago) but when i have D/C or leave the Character pannel, i have lost my old character.

Like others have said it is only a theory and that is the rule. Nobody is saying it didn't happen it means that you don't know that it would replicate exactly unless you go back and do it again and show proof that it happens that way every time.

It happened to me before, sometimes when you complete the migrate, your characters copy stays on your old realm. gets deleted after some time. you can try to send the gold away but it gets rerolled

so i haave to transfer my charakter before the realm connection maintaince begin? and hopefully my char get duped? will try this when my realm is listed on the to do list ! :P

This is a exploit if it could be reproduced. Until then it's just a bug and you got lucky.

Also it would cost around 100€ to try reproduce it and if it wouldn't succeed you're pretty much screwed for 100€. If it does indeed work, it's a sick exploit cause you could duplicate a sick character with for example legendary mount/rare mounts, or perhaps a lot of old achievements and titles that are no longer obtainable and then transfer to another account and sell? If you can still transfer between 2 different b.net accounts and keep everything you had. I have no idea if that even works, or if the achievements and account related stuff would get wiped. But also since gold and everything is duped, having gold cap on the char, including caged rare pets/BoE mounts worth a lot this could be huge. But with an exploit like this going on you'd pretty much be getting banned since it would be easy for blizzard to track this.

But anyways, I would love to try this when my server gets merged but I don't got 100€ to throw away, even if it would works.

Don't misunderstand, I agree this was probably a bug, but I do find it amusing that some people in this thread think that when you pay for a transfer / faction change on the website, it gets sent to some "GM" who processes it manually...

i'll try it on other server soon. when they getting merged into other one ( i still got the dk for 6 days now + i can play him )

there is one problem with you sentence, gold cap = 1M gold, and well maximum gold you can transfer with single character is 50k so it aint really worth it for gold duping
