Vanilla account - Twinks in 80's experience-on BGs queue (for 10 days)

Here is a small find I came upon when pimping out some farming alt accounts. Did a search, didn't find anything on that matter here. You can end up being in the non-twink (exp-on) queue while having your experience technically frozen for 10 days. Here is how I did it:

1- Make sure you have one pimped out character, with MOP gear. One valid reason could be to solo farm instances for money, which is what I do via botting.
2- Upgrade the account to the 10-day Cata trial
3- Queue in BGs

The fun thing with this one is that while the trial still allows you to gain experience, but it prevents you from leveling up. It keeps you one point away from level 81, but you still technically gain experience points for quests, killing mobs, and BG objectives. And, you also get queued in experience on BGs.

Meaning your pimped out Paladin will have a whopping 300k and will easily kill anyone. Or that you will one-shot anyone with that fire Mage.


Perhaps this could have more potential uses, but abusing a bunch of poor 80-84's seems to be the main use of this little trick. Sure, it won't last forever, but when you use cheap accounts to usually farm, this can prove to be some fun entertainment.

I don't remember when exactly they fixed the expansion lock thing back in WOTLK, but as far as I know, I haven't seen the "10-day trial version" of this before until I tried it out of sheer curiosity.

Looks like as long as there is an exp bar, no matter how it behaves, the game queues you in the xp-on queue.

I did this when mop first came out.

I had full cata pvp gear from the previous expansion and that made me pretty lethal in terms of dps in the 80-84 bracket. That said, 84's have much higher health pools and have acquired a decent set of gear by that stage, so you will struggle against them.
Most of the MOP pieces obtainable at 80 will significantly improve on that, they have a higher ilvl but they are for pve, and they don't have set bonuses.

Now, if you farm or buy the extremely rare and expensive items like bjam's door knocker, matsuba's breadmaker etc, then you can do what you are talking about with one-shotting people. That is really, really time-consuming however, I must have spent at least a hundred hours of play doing that and I didn't even get a fully optimized gear set. Highly debatable whether it is worth it for a 10-day trial.

Additionally, 80-84 xp-off games you would think would be full of twinks. In fact there are many poorly geared players in that bracket, so you can enjoy those games forever if you don't mind the long que times.

Mostly Botanica. Could go for HoL with the MOP-geared toon. I used the BC originally to RaF powerlevel on a new server.

I already had a toon on that BC geared like that, as I wanted to farm HoL, aside from Botanica. So with a ilvl 364 toon, going into exp-on BGs did give a tremendous advantage.

True, it's highty situational in terms of worth, but if you got that, might as well give it a shot.
