Powerleveling a second Battle Pet after leveling one up

After reaching a higher level with one battle pet, battle a mid level pet that is a few levels higher than the one you want to powerlevel. Drop the bomb from your high level pet (or any ability that does burst damage after a few rounds, I was using XE-321 Boombot), then swap out your low level pet, and watch the bomb destroy the mid level pet. Your low level pet does zero work and gets all the EXP. I listed this in guides and got zero feedback, but after testing this repeatedly it sure does seem like an exploit. I am able to kill a level 10 battle pet with a level 1 and gain almost two levels using this. This is very useful if you want to go for all the leveling achievements.

Try it out and let me know if it helped you. Happy leveling everyone!

Pfft, I used to do this shit when I played Pokemon years ago. As far As Im concerned, Blizz intentionally mimicked those features and this is working as intended. Just smart use of game mechanics.

Ok, thanks for the constructive feednback. I never played pokemon so I wasn't familiar with this type of game. Maybe this is more of a guide then if it is intended.

The pet you are powerleveling does not have to do any damage or be active when the opponent pet dies.

All is has to do to get XP is to be active for at least 1 round in a winning battle (even if it does no damage) and not die.

Ah, good point and thanks for the info. I have been using pets that are defensive or have self res abilities just in case they did die.

thanks for commenting, +rep for the good info.

But if the low level gets _all_ the xp, as OP states, then this is better than the old pokemon tactic.

Yes, the low level gets all the exp.

Like I said M111m, I never played pokemon and I am sure there are alot of people who will read this who haven't played it so I think this will help them regardless. I think I am used to the group xp nerf that happens when a lvl 85 is in group with a level 10. This just isnt the case when it comes to pet battles.

Then this is nothing like the "pokemon tactic"

The one from pokemon goes like this:

    1. Send out low level against higher level enemy.
    2. On your firs turn, switch out to your higher level.
    3. Kill the enemy.
    4. The xp from the enemy gets split equally to every pokemon that participated in the fight. (50% to the low level)

While this tactic goes like this: (if i understand it correctly)

    1. Send out high level against high level.
    2. Use an attack that deals damage in a few turns.
    3. Switch out to the lower level pet.
    4. Watch the enemy die from the attack from the higher level.
    5. The low level gets all the xp.

the lower level gets all the exp IF it is beyond the targets level to such an extent that the higher level would not normally gain exp to begin with. Basically put, If the Higher level pet you use to kill the target is within level range and can still obtain Exp. it will.

I've been using a different variant to this, get your target really low health (can fail sometimes due to you actually killing it) then whip out your low pet and let it deal the finishing blow and it will receive much more XP due to the level difference bonus.

Nice to know there's a method to get ALL the XP though.

So the same way player characters work (85 grouped with a 10 killing lvl 15 mobs) but without the high level party exp nerf.

So what I did earlier today was start fight with high level pet > get mobs health down > swap to low level pet > deal killing blow with low level pet.
Is that how you described it ? If so I found my XP to be shared.
