I've read of several people who said they got their entire Battle.net accounts perma-banned for trying to merge a SoR account into their Battle.net accounts. Some of those people have posted in this forum.
The idea that this could potentially get my entire Battle.net account banned makes me nervous.
It has been asked several times in this thread, but no one has clarified the following (sorry if I am being thick headed):
When merging a purchased account into a battlenet account, the Blizzard website checks to make sure the name and address on the purchased account matches the name and address on the battlenet account. Obviously those won't match unless you happen to buy your own old account. When that conflict is detected it will not let you proceed with the merger. How are you guys managing to circumvent this conflict?
Hell, I tried to merge my son's old account into my battle.net account, with the same last name and same address but different first name and I couldn't get that done without emailing a copy of his birth certificate and my passport (which I decided was not worth it).
Even once a merger is achieved, several people have reported getting bans several days after the fact. I have no way to verify if the bans really happened or not.
So, all you people who are talking about how lucky you got with your SoR purchased accounts, were you able to successfully merge them with your main accounts? How did you do that?
I think you are supposed to change everything to be identical before you try to merge it, first name and last name. But I'm only guessing since I haven't tried this yet. Its a good question though. Main reason I keep holding off on doing it anyways. I just want to merge accounts to get the achievements for my main char, especially achievements that are unavailable now. But if there is a high risk of losing my main account and everything along with it, maybe its not worth trying. Need more insight / opinions from others that have purchased many accounts already,
Why hasn't this thread been deleted? It's not an exploit.
It might be an exploit, its just we need more clarification. If in fact you somehow can change another account with different information so that the information matches what you have on your account, and you can therefore get access to mounts/companions/achievs/FoS that you otherwise are not able to get, I think it qualifies as an exploit.
I just cant tell from the thread what the actual mechanics are that allow you to do that.
Update: I just found this thread: http://www.ownedcore.com/forums/worl...-ban-wave.html (SoR account ban wave?)
It seems there is a very real risk of bans for this. Buyer beware.
You can merge unmerged accounts into your battle.net regardless of the name on that account. Note this is not the same as merging two battle.net accounts that does require at least the last names to match.
Once merged, account information is tied to the b.net and not the original account. It is against the EULA to merge accounts for which you are not the original owner, however I don't believe anyone has been banned simply for merging.
I believe bans are related to botting on the account after merging and sending a SoR. These accounts are closely monitored by Blizzard as a botters save time money by buying unmerged accounts instead of creating new ones. In other words, probably 90% of the recently merged accounts were cracked and being used to farm and sell gold, and thus draw extra attention.
EDIT: All of my recently merged accounts were banned today, and I did nothing more than merge, send an SoR and login to see what characters were available (nothing good). My main accounts (on the same b.net) were untouched, but now I'm stuck with a bunch of banned accounts that are merged. This could possibly be avoided by merging to an account with the same name, or changing name on unmerged account (not sure if it's possible).

This 100% worked for me and thus far there has been no ban, EU Server:
-Bought a regular SoR Account and merged as normal to new B.net account yesterday.
-Was fortunate enough to find it had Vanilla Collector's Edition (complete luck).
-Made a bunch of Level 1's after accepting SoR and then mailed pets to a single character on that license.
-Transferred that single character to different account on a different battle.net (both B.net are mine).
-Mailed batches pets to each of the characters on my main account.
-All characters on main account gained the pets and FoS.
I have SoR'd many characters on a few B.net's for botting and also to save levelling, probably a dozen times now. This is the first CE I have seen.
Over the past few months, I have bought and merged 10-15 SoR accounts and have not had any problems with any. these are spread across different B.nets, all in my name etc. Will update if I run into any trouble but IMO, I don't think you can complain about bans - just hope that the account you move them to doesn't get affected.

Zoidberg: Meursault, give me your vector drawing skills, please.
The Account Merging Ban Wave is complete Nonsense , People that got banned either Did something bad on the accounts or Ticket Blizzard about it or they have been monitorized in the last period of time.and Glad it worked for you Meursault.
Leozeul, I have to admit. All of the accounts I merged were banned.
I did nothing wrong on them, SoR, Logged in, checked out the toons, transferred the toons I wanted to keep off the accounts. If they had CE I would create a ton of lvl 1's to send the pets to the SoR 80 before it was transferred.
I did nothing illegal, no botting, etc and they were all banned.
To protect myself though, all but 1 of the accounts were merged into battle.net accounts I created separate from my primary account.
I've bought and unmerged account, migrated and attached to my bnet account without any problem but now I'm trying to send a SoR to it and I'm not recieving any email, tried sending it within the same bnet account (its possible according to FAQ) but also from another account, and nothing... no SoR.
While Im reaidng this I have fear that my main account will get banned (EU). I merged 3 bought SoR accounts with my main account to get the vanilla CE pets and some extra honorable kills due to the accountwide mechanic. I dont do botting or anything bad on this account. I transferred some good chars on the bought accounts on my main account and let the 3 bought accounst expire (they are now all frozen except my main account). Is it possible in any way to save my main account now from a possible ban? If I get a ban will it only get to the 3 bought accounts or also on my main? Will it be a perma ban or just a 3 day ban for example?
If you merge An Unmerged account into your main Bnet account you have nothing to fear really the only shitty thing that might happen is that the account you merged will either get locked/removed but your main account wont ever get banned or anything.
I Even Botted on An account On my Bnet account and only that Account got banned, my main one didn't even get a warning ...
Also uptaded Info on First page.
this is like a scam for the most part.. its not an exploit. You have a chance to get a CE account when you buy an SOR account. the accounts are gathered from sellers over the years that never sold to the public. So now that blizz offers SoR and what not, these sellers can make their money back... and you have a chance to get one of the CE accounts..
this isnt an exploit.. nor is it a bug of any sort..
