I had one transmog of pvp rogue s10 shoulders on heirloom leather shoulders which i sent to warrior (looks like plate and badass), didn't use the character for a while. Now it's gone. So i think blizz hunts and removes it. Maybe on request by another player no idea but it's gone just recently so it did not happen cause of the fix.

I've been able to transmog a crafted level 50 item (Enchanted thorium shit) and to send it, but i didn't put this on the first slot, i put it in the last one.

So what are you saying is that if you mail the item in the last item slot of the mail window interface, then the transmogrification effect will stay on the item?

yes but I think there's a condition, because I tried with class set item, and it didn't worked, so I believe you have to transmog an item that doesn't have a class restriction. (The DK starting sword works fine, i'll post screen)

Well that's becuase the sword is a quest reward item.

I've checked why some people cannot wear transmogged plate. You have to be able to wear the skin item (item you use for transmog, not transmogged item). If you can't wear plate, you can't wear quest DK stuff (except the badass weapon).

Tried to transmog the hairlooms now, used warlock's brutal gladiator robe, felheart (t1) shoulders and brutal gladiator's staff, after mailing it to my mage (level 70), all the items, but staff have lost the appearance, so seems that you can keep the look of the items that you COULD wear (no class restrictions/appropriate level/cloth-leather-mail-plate still apply etc). So.. it is no longer granting any special benefits - unless you got some good-looking items without any special restrictions on your alts

Is there a way to look up items with no required level by armor class? For instance to see all cloth items that would qualify for this?
