If you get in combat, and put up mend pet, and keep reapplying it, you will stay in combat infinitely.

Useful in PVP to prevent saps or disengage when nobody has attacked for awhile

No, it works indefinitely. So after everyone is dead, and your pet should no longer be in combat, you just keep mend pet up and it will keep you in combat.

No, it's not. If the glitch were not occurring, you would drop combat as soon as your pet gets out of combat. By keeping up mend pet, you are exploiting a glitch and are able to stay in combat.
