I can only answer the last 2.

Yes, we tried a total of 4 mounts. Invincible, Turtle, Tauren Pally Mount, Goblin Trike. So I assume all work.
Yes there is the Leave vehicle option.

And to the first, I would suppose just 1..

Me and a friend did this just a few days ago. mounted up some mounts, but it didnt seem like the battlestrider was mountable. after we tried that (black battlestrider), the effect dissapeared. we did not try to run dm again tho

A friend and I just tried this. Tried to get to stormwind, but it dismounted us in the middle of elwynn.

I also tried this last night and had the same results as Tssguy123... it worked, but it dismounted the passenger in the middle of Elwynn on the way to SW.

Me and my friend were in SW for about a minute and a half before it kicked him off.

Proof:
