With Maelstrom Crystal going for so much there is an easy way if you are an Alchemist / Enchanter to make a LOT OF GOLD. Lifebound Alchemist Stone :http://www.wowhead.com/item=58483/li...lchemist-stone is disenchantable (which I believe it shouldn't be) and is at a very low cost.

Materials:
50x Volatile Life
12x Cinderbloom
12x Ashara's Veil
12x Heartblossom

Total cost 1200g.

Resell the shard for 3k+.

Make a nice profit!

Disenchanting an epic item that is crafted is hardly an exploit regardless, just a cheaper way to get crystals.
