My mate changed faction and he got to keep the mount. You have to transfer, buy a new mount and then you can transfer back. Probably works with more mounts. Enjoy!

Wrong.
You keep it as a mount as long as you don't dismount after factionchange.
You won't have it in your book and can't mount up again.

as said above it disappears once u dismount, as i had nelf tiger when i changed to horde once i dismounted it was gone

Actually, I faction changed a Night Elf Druid, and didn't spawn inside the inn. I actually spawned outside the inn, near the center pool of water. I was mounted on a Night Elf mount as well.

To be clear, I did not receive this mount in my spell book, and once I dismounted, I had no way of mounting the on the same mount again.

This is wrong.
When you change you spawn near the water in the Valley of Spirits if I remember correctly and this topic was already posted here on the side but don't know where and if it has been deleted.
