There is a quest picked up in blades edge (http://www.thottbot.com/i31535) that gives you poisons that you are simply able to apply and use while arena. This certainly gives you an advantage as a melee class and most likely was mis-looked by our all loved blizzard, therefore making this an exploit. This quest is not repeatable but hell it was worth it on my warrior enjoy

Do not use this poison if you are/have a shaman in group or if you are a rogue. They do not stack.

Not sure if it's been patched, but earlier you could also apply things before you enter the arena, but put them in your bags until you've zoned in and then equip them. Think I read about that here on mmowned.com.
