I think this has been fixed. It was working earlier today for me, but this afternoon neither myself nor another pally in my guild could get it to work. Bummer.

I have also recently tried this. I summoned my pet, chose one of the options, closed the window. Next, I cast Hand of Protection on myself. Then I right-clicked on my pet again. I only had the 1 option I had chosen before.

I waited until my Hand of Protection cooldown was back up, and after my Squire had already run off to the bank for me. Then I summoned him again; he had the Tired debuff. I right-clicked on him to check that I had no bank/vendor/mailbox options available. I closed the window and cast Hand of Protection on myself. I right-clicked on my pet again; still no options.

I'm going to say that this is definitely fixed on live US realms.

Same here. US realm, and the cooldown is still active even with the HoP. Nice while it lasted.
