Free Soul Shards

Alright I was in IF testing a new talent spec when I saw a lock log on and soul drain a target dummy. She did this a few times and then ported away. I whispered her asking if she got soul shards from the dummy and she replied yes. I was intrigued by this and decided to check on my 52 lock on a 60 target dummy. It actually works. Since they changed the spell from killing it to just damaging it it will work like this. I included two pics with the same text at the top to see that I didn't cut and paste anything.





I searched the forums for
Soul Shard
Target Dummy
Free Soul Shards

and all results came back with nothing of this trick. I guess it isn't really an exploit. But it would be useful to raiding locks so they can have a full bag of shard before the raid instead of trying to get them off the trash and fights.

Well then I was that one lock. Because I probably would have not figured it out unless I went to the dummy to test a spec with my lock, which at < 80 I have no reason to do. But thanks none the less.

This is this due to the change in Drain Soul. Back in the day Drain Soul used to say "If the target dies while being drained, and yields experience or honor, the caster gains a Soul Shard." Since WotLK I believe Drain Soul has been changed to have a "chance" at gaining a soul shard when the target is damaged. This includes Test Dummies.

You can also use Drain Soul in duels and gain Soul Shards...

this is not an exploit because u can drain shards from everything that can give u xp/honor. and since the dummies have a lvl they would give u xp if u were actually able to kill them. also, this is common sense and u must be a real idiot if u didnt know about this until now(been possible since the change of drain soul in 3.2 months ago).

Sigh, leechers..., this has been posted i guess around 10 times?, and for the love of god, u all who have warlocks and didn't know about this deserves a punch in the face with a car, or even better a truck!....
