well, when I did it again to some guildies who left the guild (ex-guildies hmm)

You could keep logging in because you don't immediatly leave the guild, thus making the buff expire if you keep doing it long enough.

This is not a glitch you can force upon other people. There is an error that will cause people to disconnect in water upon certain conditions. I believe it's a problem with the character swimming in an area that, without water, would be considered to be falling in. It's an issue in the servers, and Blizzard is more than likely repairing it.
