As far as I believe the server just checks on entering whether other players are engaging a boss, strangely not the boss himself.
Since other exploits point out that you get out of fight for very short peroid, this may work during phase transition.

Doesn't work for me for today. Tried both during phase 2 and phase 3.

Judged by other comments, I think this is not always happen or maybe fixed.

Ive seen this work, but then Ive also had it not work. I agree its something to do with lag. So it CAN work, but I wouldnt count on it to.
