Ok here is how it is done

step 1: get the argent horn
step 2: use it before you turn into a zombie stand in populated place
step 3: once your low health the pally will bop you and you become friendly with everyone
step 4: grats you win

Maybe you got killed too fast for him to react? Try to use the horn a little sooner..that's all I can tell you.

let me add to that that when you are in a party with people who are a zombie too.... you can kill them while you are a bugged zombie. xD
