It was intended for you not to be able to attack while in that disguise, as designated by the tooltip, so it was not intended by Blizzard for you to be able to do so, hence the exploit. No matter how useful it is or not, it is still an exploit.

The tooltip says casting SPELLS. SPELLS and ranged attack aren't the same thing.

Did they change bat so you couldn't attack with it this year? I haven't had a bat costume yet, but last year you could attack all you wanted with it. It was wisp that you wern't able to do so in.
